German and Italian pows were commonly used labor in Upstate NY. As well as being fed, clothed and housed decently, they were also paid common laborers rate for the work they did...largely agricultural, but also logging and factory use. And many of them wanted to stay or returned after the war. I wonder if there was a single case of an American POW wanting to stay in Germany, Japan, or elsewhere after the war?
