Oswald's shots, if he was the shooter, were at very close ranges, about 240 feet, as I recall. Big, Big difference!
I'm still impressed by the 3 snipers on the bow of the Navy vessel that took out 3 bad guys simultaneously to save Cap'n Phillips.
That I would doubt, unless they were dry docked somewhere. I think you missed my point. If anyone of them had missed, Captain Phillips may not still be with us.Well, they could have just about done it with pistols. The lifeboat was only about 25-30 yards astern.
One of them did miss - there were 4 shooters and one had to recycle to kill the 4th guy. That I would doubt, unless they were dry docked somewhere. I think you missed my point. If anyone of them had missed, Captain Phillips may not still be with us.
I only recall there were 3 badguys. Perhaps I'm wrong. It was still an incredible feat. One of them did miss - there were 4 shooters and one had to recycle to kill the 4th guy.
If I recall correctly, there were 19 total shots fired. Some of those shots took place after the small pirate boat was taken over by the Seal Team. There may have been as many as 5 bad guys. I read this somewhere in a news bulletin, shorty after the rescue took place.I only recall there were 3 badguys. Perhaps I'm wrong. It was still an incredible feat.
About twenty years ago I read the biography of Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock. There was one incident describing how he intentionally shot the front fork of a moving bicycle at 2,500 yards. According to the story, Hathcock spotted a 12 year old boy, apparently a Vietcong courier, delivering a load of AK-47's on a heavily-laden bicycle. Hathcock was sitting behind a scope-sighted .50 Browning machine gun set for single fire.
Hathcock thought that the kid was too young to kill, so he decided to scare him by shooting the bike out from under him. He aimed for the front fork and sent the kid sprawling into the road. Instead of running away, the boy grabbed one of the AK's and started charging in Hathcock's direction. The second shot killed him.
Until somebody conducts an experiment that replicates this shot, I'll keep on doubting that it really happened. :scrutiny
