This is really beautiful handle material - it's expensive but the results are worth it IMHO. :)

Let me know what you think. :uhoh:

Can i have the handle on the first one and the blade on the second? :D:D

Those are great pieces, how long did they take you to make?

Beautiful work, very nice.........I really like the Giraffe handled piece.

I know this isn't the intent, but where can I get one of those?

Nice!

To give everyone and idea of how "retentive" I am I sent a knife with pretty mosaic pins like those back to a maker because they weren't lined up each like the other.

Yep, I usually make sure those pins are lined up but in the Snakewood they were too short to do that. :) I would take it back in a second if the customer wasn't happy, but for the price he paid I think he was happy.

Thanks for the comments!

jojo, you PM or email me and make an order! :p I am out of giraffe bone right now but am working on getting more. That knife is $250, with regular handle material is $150. I can't even think about making it until next year.

Omni04, about a month off and on. I don't even know how long it takes me to make a knife! I always have several projects going on it seems. Yesterday I started with bar steel and made 4 heat treated knives. I had to cut them out, profile them in three grits, layout the lines, drill holes for handles and lightening, hollow grind and taper the tangs, grind the blades in three grits and finish the flats to 220 grit. Then I normalized them twice and heat treated them, and all that took over 8 hours. I don't normally work that many hours but these are X-Mas orders and they have to get done so the wife can make sheaths! :)

very nice work don!

snakewood is one of my favorite woods. out of curiousity do you remember how much that chunk cost you?

It was free! I had bought some stabilized wood from a guy on ebay and he said he shipped it but I never got it, so he shipped it again and threw the snakewood in. I had made a damascus and Ironwood knife and this guy wanted something as good but different so I used it.

Thanks alot - have another giraffe bone one and 2 Ironwood knives about done. X-Mas orders. :)

wow good deal. i ask because i see a lot of makers pay like $40 for snakewood and there are places to get it much cheaper..like gilmer woods. i hate seeing people pay more than they should

be sure to post the new ones :)
