My WASR 10 came with a barrel nut that had one spot weld on the underside of the barrel(Just above where the cleaning rod ends). Ive been wanting to get that sucker off, but ive got a few reservations.

1. One person I talked to said that doing something to take off the spot weld could mess with the integrity of the barrel in that spot, and that I was better off just cutting it off altogether. Is that correct?

Sorry for the fuzziness. My camera has a close up function, but a message always comes up about there not being enough light...Regardless of whether its under 10 flashlights, or under the mid day sun.

2. After removing the nut, I would like to get the barrel threaded. Is this a job for a gunsmith or a machine shop somewhere? If so, how much can I expect to pay?

Rifle in question just for kicks.

Can't see jack **** in that first pic, it looks like you circled the big fuzzy spot in the middle of the photo. I'm not purposley trying to be critical but it wasn't even worth posting if you ask me.

Your camera should have a macro mode. Make sure the camera is not in zoom and you are propping it up on a stable surface, so basically its not shaking from your hand.
Put it on a desk with the rifle and the spot in question and have it so that the picture can be taken with the camera sitting on the desk, or a corner of the camera sitting on the desk so that it doesn't shake.
Finally, hold down the flash button halfway and using the LCD it should come into focus beautifully, then press all the way and you should have a very nice photo. If its too bright then take off the flash.

The big fuzzy spot is the spot weld.

This is the first time since ive had this camera that macro mode has let me take a picture. It either chirps about not enough light or other things.

just cut the weld, unless where ya live prohibits it.take a dremel grinding wheel and cut the weld where it meets the C rod holder and the nut.then clean up the welds.piece of cake..check the rules before ya do.some places they have to be permanently attached..
