Coyete scope

It depends on the terrain, and the estimated distances you are likely to shoot. There is no set answer.

2-7X or 3-9X.

And run it on the lowest power while walking.

You will miss more running coyotes with a high power scope with narrow field of view at close range then you ever will by not having enough magnification at long range.

That is what I have on my Super Grade, 3-10 Leupold, and it's nice scope. It's low enough power for close shots, say 50 yards, but can dial up when needed. The bad part is that they run about $500.

Whatever.

But 10x is more then you can hold steady while standing on you own hind legs while walking around.

I was killing coyotes at 400 yards with a 4x Weaver on a 30-06 in 1960 something.

You get lucky a lot, and the more you shoot at 400 yards, the luckier you get.

Again, my best advice for a coyote scope is, too much power is always way worse then not enough power.

Ditto RC. I would add, if you're hunting with a variable, your walking around and the coyote appears, shoot with what the scope is set on. If it’s on 3x and the coyote is at 400 yds, go with it. DON'T PLAY AROUND WITH THE POWER RING!!! When the dog’s in sight, the second you mess with the power ring that dog will be gone. Learnt from experience.
