Coyote Valley Sporting Clays, Review & Pictures
Coyote Valley is located about 65 miles south east of San Francisco down by San Jose. I was in the bay area for a few days so I thought I’d give them a try.
They have 2 courses there. A manual 10-station Mountain course that you need to make reservations for and a 14-station fully automated Valley course. I shot them both.
When I first pulled in I was taken by how beautiful the place was. Golden grass covered hills and Oak trees everywhere.
I shot the Mountain course first. I met Juan (my trapper) and we hoped in a golf cart for the ride to the top. I had never shot a course with manual machines before so it was all new to me. Most of the stations were true pairs with the targets being in close but with some short windows.
Juan didn’t speak much English and my Spanish is limited to spending time in TJ, but somehow we made do. It was a pretty challenging course, but I had a good time. I was the only person on the course so I was finished pretty quickly
The best things about the Mountain course are the views. Some of them are spectacular.
I went into the clubhouse to inquire about shooting the Valley course. The people working there weren’t overly friendly and told me they don’t allow a “view pair†at the stations on the Valley course.
I asked them how I would know where the targets were coming from and they said that if I wanted to “see a pair†that I’d have to pay for them. Luckily I met 2 nice guys (Pete & Tom) that were going out and they let me shoot with them.
The Valley course while not as pretty is more fun in my opinion. There are some challenging stations and some “softer†ones.
All in all I had a great time and will come back when I’m up there. If you’re in the bay area, this is a “must shoot†place.
