This is the last time I'll ask any more compact CC pistol related questions for a while, I promise.

I've been looking at a lot of "cheaper" guns for quite a while now and tomorrow I will be buying one of the two aforementioned. No need to suggest others, please.

I have not shot either one but have handled both several times. My thoughts are the extra capacity on the Taurus is nice, as well as the trigger, but the size and grip of the CPX I like better. I have large hands and want something to get all three fingers around and the CPX fits that bill. While I'm aware grip extensions are around for the PT it still seems smaller overall, and I have not held one with extensions.

So, I'm looking folks that have experience with either or both. CounterZero I know you recently did a nice review on the PT111 and that's mainly what got me looking at it, so any additional input from you would be appreciated.

FWIW the two LGS's that have these in stock have them at basically the same price. The CPX is $6 cheaper but I have a $10 (whoopee) coupon at the store with the Taurus so...

Thanks in advance, Jon

No experience with the SCCY CPX-1 but I did have a Taurus PT111 Gen.3 for awhile a few years back. Decent gun made with quality components and very well constructed. My problem with the gun itself was with the design of the grip frame and how it affected my getting a quick sight picture. Other than that I thought the PT111 was a very good buy for the money.

Same as bannockburn; No experience with the SCCY except handling them at the shop. I shot a PT111G2, nice gun for the money.

I have a SCCY CPX-2; which is almost the same as the CPX-1, except it doesn't have a safety. You might check out the SCCY forum before you decide. Other than that I don't have any experience with the Taurus. I had a couple of issues with the SCCY, but they fixed them with no hassles. Actually, they sent me a couple of magazine cans, new slide and barrel; which fixed a feed problem.

I think its a matter of personal preference. Whatever fits your hand better.

I thought that the SCCY has a slightly better trigger, it feels like a longer trigger but I think its a lighter trigger where it actually breaks.

I was pretty frustrated with the Millennium G2 trigger my last trip to the range. I was shooting from sand bags but after the G2 trigger hits the wall, it takes so much pressure that after the third shot, my trigger hand was trembling slightly, and at just 21 feet I had a 1.5" shot group. I was frustrated. I probably could tighten that group up by taking my time, resting a little bit between shots, and being more patient, but its only 21 feet and it just pisses me off.

I know the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 is not a range gun. Probably if I'm going to shoot it I need to stick a B27 target out at 30 feet and if all shots are in the black I declare victory and move on to guns that are more fun to shoot.

I shot the SCCY a while back, and wasn't too impressed one way or another. Not a bad gun, but I don't really want one. I like the PT111 G2 a lot. I don''t understand your "hit the wall" comment at all. I put two hundred rounds though the Taurus a couple of weeks ago, at a pretty high rate, and had no problems with the trigger effort at all. I wonder if your's has a problem?

Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 has a long take up, the rearward movement stops – like hitting a wall, and then quite a bit of pressure to get the trigger to break. I think for me, the slower I try to fire it, the more it becomes a problem. I'm probably better off trying to use the trigger like a DA trigger, it probably breaks easier, or seems to break easier if its moving versus taking up the slack and slowly building pressure on it.

There is a tutorial on TaurusArmed.net on how to do a fluff & buff on all the trigger:

I don't want to put in the time on the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 either with dry firing and range time or with a Dremel to improve the out-of-box trigger but the trigger does improve with use, or can be improved by polishing the right parts. I didn't buy the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 to turn it into a project. Its accurate enough, its a cheap gun that's going in a bag and if and when I ever need it, I won't be shooting the 10 ring out of bullseyes. The trigger is good enough to put rounds roughly center of mass on a human sized target at 75 feet and closer.

The Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 is about $35.00 cheaper than the SCCY CPX-2 but my opinion is that the CPX-2 has a better trigger.

Can't speak for the CPX, but I do know my G2 has been great and I know where there's 4 (maybe 5) folks that also have had great experience with the Taurus.

As for the trigger, I don't have any problem hitting plates out to 20 yards with the g2 (normally shoot at 15). I've never shot it on paper only plates so I have zero idea if it'll shoot MOA @100 yards, but I can tell you it's not hard hitting the 100yd gong on the rifle range. The 200yd...well that's a lot tougher.

Count Zero-I think you are right about just pulling through. I used to have a Kel-Tec P-11. When I first got it I would try to slowly pull though & get a perfect break. The long catchy trigger gave me fits. After a while I just started pulling through it & my results improved. Oddly enough I basically replaced the P-11 with a Taurus PT-111 Millenium G2. I haven't had any problem with the trigger but I do shoot it like a DA trigger.

After I had bought the Taurus last year I took a buddy of mine out to shoot. I let him shoot all my pistols. He struggled with everything. I handed him the Kel-Tec & let him shoot it. He tore the center out of the target at 7 yards & offered to buy it on the spot. I didn't sell it that day. A couple of weeks ago when I took the family over to his house to swim in the pool & eat too much I decided to give it to him.

I don't know anything about the rear movement hitting a wall and requiring "quite a bit of pressure" to get it to break. The ones I've shot were no worse than many DA/SA guns I've had. I have shot 3 different PT111 G2's and experienced nothing slightly difficult at all, and I have arthritis in my hands and they hurt most of the time. I put at least 100 rounds through all of them at a single session, and a couple of times I put over 200 through one. The trigger isn't great, even when new, but I've had a lot worse. My FEG P9R had the worst out of the box trigger ever, it was crunchy like broken glass was in the mechanism, with a couple of Erma PPK look alikes being the runners up.
