I found this posted in response to a guy asking a grand for a western field 20ga. Other than the poster calling the guy an idiot, I got a kick out of it a little bit.

Also, edit to add, I'm still wet behind the ears, so I don't know how accurate it is. But could you really have guns shipped straight to your door without a ffl?

1949 western field twenty gauge shot gun with a clip this gun values in the gun bible for about 1200 will take a thousand cash

-----

Hell, I'd take a 1,000 cash for the 3 I have as well. The MOST valuable Western Field ever produced is the M550AD, produced in 1935-36. It's only worth around 600.

I'd really like a scan of the page that shows a Western Field listed for 1200 bucks. That's just me, I reckon.

I just really don't like to see people trying to screw over other folks. SO, either you're trying to screw someone, or you're too big of an idiot to know what you have.

If you're just an idiot, post of the model number that's on the shotgun and I'll give you an accurate value that can be verified over the web.

If you're trying to screw someone, find another place to do it, because cl doesn't come with vaseline.

Just for starters, to help educate a little bit...

Western Field shotguns were manufactured, for the most part, by either Mossberg or Savage, depending on the model. They were marketed under the Western Field name for Montgomery Wards. This makes them a 'not-very-desirable' firearm for everyone, other than the guys that specifically collect the 'hardware' store guns.

Oh my, did he say hardware store guns???

Why yes, I did, because right up until the mid 80's you could walk into just about any hardware store in America and purchase a firearm.

Hell, I remember when you could have a long gun shipped to your door without having to deal with dealers.

So look what America has become, a not very good place to live. And now we have like minded folks trying to screw one another, either out of ignorance, or more likely, greed.

Thats the beauty of a free market. Everyone is able to ask what ever they want for anything.

Its up to a buyer to educate himself on the purchase.

The poster who called the seller an idiot is just one of those annoying folks who have self appointed themselves educators to the world.

And yes you usta could have guns mailed directly to the house.

If anyone is going to on someone's word on what a "value" book says it's worth deserves to pay to learn that lesson. Those kinda lines are used all the time, not just with guns.

I can't tell you how many muscle cars I've looked at where the guy would say something like "this car just sold at Barrett Jackson for $xxx, xxx.xx" to justify their price. The car at BJ was a 1 of < 100, well documented and professionally restored... What the guy was selling was a rusted POS.

When I was rehabbing houses I used to get the same thing also...

Moral of the story is to do your own research or pay the lazy/stupidity tax.... :)

Perfectly fine

Because it's not against Federal law to ship a gun in state. It might be against some state laws (depends on the state), but in many cases it's perfectly legit.

A Non FFL can ship a firearms intrastate to a Non FFL. Fed Gov does not have the authority to regulate this as it is not interstate trade.

intrastate = in state
interstate = between states

Now, convincing Fedex/UPS that you can do this is another matter.

Yeah, write me a check and send it first class mail.

By the time you realize your gun is not "in the mail" I'll be in Jamaica.

My Dad bought his .30-30 mail order, way back when.
So far it hasn't been used in any sort of terroristic or
'criminal' activity. We'll have to keep an eye on it, though, as
evidently the relatively unregulated manner in which it was
purchased makes it somehow inherently 'evil'.

Not exactly. The federal government certainly could regulate intrastate sales under the aegis of interstate commerce if they wanted (sufficient authority to do so exists under the CC), but so far they have not.

I have the same question as Wiry Irishman: How is this ad staying up? Someone flagged an ad I ran for a reloading press and it got deleted within a few hours. The case tumbler did sell, though. :)

I thought craigslist normally had a policy on listing weapons or components for sale anyway. I'm surprised it lasted long enough for a reply.

IIRC, Craigslist is intended to be policed by the community. In my area (SW VA), some of the gun stuff stays up for quite a while if you're somewhat discrete about the title.

atblis, that would explain why I used to see ads in WA state that listed "ruger hunting stick, $300."
