Creedmore Leather coat

Only in their respective competition formats. Highpower/CMP, and 3/4 position games. I’ve never seen a shooting jacket in any other shooting sport, and wouldn’t, because the advantage for such isn’t there.

I'm at the CMP Western Games in Phoenix, AZ. The High Power Matches don't start until Wednesday but the Vintage rifle match competitors are nearly all wearing Creedmoor coats or equivalents. I expect the High Power shooters to be doing the same.

I really need to familiarize myself with the match schedule out here. I've been here about a year and a half and it seems like there's a major competition every other week, and a gun show at least once a month.

Always find out to late to do anything about it too.

Go to an "across the course" highpower rifle match, and every serious competitor will be wearing some kind of coat. Probably 90% will be Creedmoor hardbacks.
Haven't gone across the course for several years now. Hard to find a range that goes past 200 and weather keeps a lot of shooters off the range. Do you think there is a market for a full leather hi-power coat by Creedmore sz 46 and in good condition?

Not being into competitive shooting I've never heard of or seen a creedmore coat until today. Learn something new.

If you can find anyone who wants/needs one, sure. It probably doesn't have much value though. It's definitely a sport on the decline although a few new shooters join up from time to time. I get emails offering used coats occasionally and mostly they're giving them away to help new shooters. When my old coat shrunk and I had to get a bigger one I gave it to a kid who helped me rebarrel my AR.

Seems like more than 65 years ago I won some trophies at the PHX range Blacks Canyon if I remember right with hi-pwr. Regional or something? I was shooting as an independent USMC and surprised hell out of the USAMTU and they kept asking, "Who IS this guy?" Won the 200 and 300 yard rapid with M-1 iron sight.

Yes. I see them posted for sale on the accurate shooters forum from time to time and if priced fairly will sell. Some guys and gals will pass them down to the junior shooters, but it would take a BIG kid to fit a size 46

^ this.

Accurate shooters forum.

The sport is in decline, but it ain’t dead yet, and great coats are still great.

When I just started out, I had a hand-me-down canvas coat, still very solid, just not terribly sexy. I recall seeing some guys running around in red and black leather Bushmaster coats, and I wanted one BADLY. I upgraded to a leather coat, eventually, but couldn’t justify the upcharge on the Bushmaster coat. Fast forward a decade, which saw the demise of Bushy, and I still stinking want one…

I use the Cordura, leather jackets are just too expensive. Every Smallbore Prone shooter is laced up in a shooting jacket. I claim it is proof that shooters are crazy, as they wear sweat shirts and a quilted jacket in the summertime.

When it is really hot, that is 90 F and above, I wear a light canvas jacket and a sweat shirt as I can't take the heat like I used to. Hard to tell if it makes a difference prone. But standing, a stiff jacket makes a difference.
