I don't want to start another thread (pissing contest) about crimp or no crimp on .223. It's been 3 years since I loaded any .223 so as a test I put the die in the press and seated a projectile in an empty case. Here is a closeup of the crimp. Too much crimp? Can you even tell by this close up?
Excuse the focus, I was trying to get as close as possible.

Is that a Lee FCD? Are you planning on running this ammo through a belt-fed machine gun? The crimp looks OK...but IMHO you don't need quite so much for AR's and the cases will live longer with a bit less crimp. I try to just get the mouth a wee bit lower than the rest of the neck so it won't be able to catch on anything while feeding...not trying to actually increase the bullet pull as this should be done well enough with neck tension.

I agree that the crimp there looks a bit too aggressive. I do fall into that category that doesn't crimp .223 but that is another topic:)

I will be the odd man out and say it looks about right or a bit light for a semi-auto. I use a heavier crimp for my Mini 14 and it shoots better than most unmodified Mini 14's.

When I looked at the closeup it made me think it was a little heavy. But, I didn't know if that was because it was a closeup which caused it to look exaggerated or if it really was too much.
