What are your thoughts on Crimson Trace lasers?
Do you have one?
How well does it work?
Is it worth over $300?
Is it worth putting on a gun if your already extremely accurate with it and have a light on it?
I love the Crimson Trace laser grips.
I have one on my Hi Power.
It works very well in dim light situations, and even works in the daytime, but it's best used in darker areas.
I didn't pay $300 for mine, but would pay that if I couldn't get it for less.
I don't like lights on my gun, specially when searching an area that a threat hasn't been identified yet. The light on a gun forces you to point a loaded gun at things or people you shouldn't be pointing a gun at. For example, let's say you are checking out that "bump in the night". You point your gun at Grandma raiding the fridge for a midnight snack. That is not a good thing. With a hand held light you can illuminate Grandma and keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
In short, if I had to make a choice between Night Sights and the Laser Grip, I'll take the Laser Grips. I'm lucky, I don't have to choose, and have both. I do not however have a light on my gun. That's for the SWAT "Bunnies" and Mall Ninja's, unless you a defending a certain position and not moving. If I'm defending a certain position I'll take the Shotgun, thank you.
Another advantage to the laser is, you do not have to have your sights in line to fire. Thus, you can shoot from a "Retention" position just as easily as from Isocoles or Weaver. For those that say, a laser gives you away to anyone watching you. Yes, if you don't know what you are doing it does. The Laser Grip it's easy to "cover" the beam and not telegraph your movement. Also, lasers are a great Dry Fire tool to aide your practice.
