Target shooting is my zen, I find it relaxing and very soothing. But I tend to work crazy hours right now between studying for the Florida Bar and expanding my Carpet, Tile, Wood Floor, and furniture business. Sometimes I come home and just pull out my two dollar a pop flea market cock and shoot air guns and shoot out quarter size holes at twenty feet while laying on my back and talking to my girlfriend on the phone(well she talks and I grunt yes, huh, really, you don't say).

So I figured I should get a Crossbow, there are some that aren't too expensive that can double as good for hunting varmint and if I ever want to go deer hunting with my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag on my side then a cross bow and some good marksmanship should make for good hunting.

I was hoping some folks had some ideas of what to get used or new. What I can hunt with if I really ever get the urge, what makes for fun target shooting. I thought about a bow and arrow but for some reason I just really like crossbows. I was thinking from what I've ready I should get one with a 175lb draw at the least if I ever want to do any light varmint hunting or some minor deer hunting.

Recommendations. Opinions.

You do not need even 175lbs of draw for deer. I have a buddy who kills them all the time with a Horton Compound Xbow which pulls 150. I use an Excalibur Phoenix which does pull 175lbs and is more than enough. Your arrow speed in a crossbow is influenced much more by the power stroke length than the draw weight. Look for something that will shoot at least twenty inch arrows 22 would be even better and has a good trigger. Horton, Ten Point and Excalibur all make good equipment. Find a shop that will let you try them on a range. Look for stock fit and a good trigger. I also like the scope that Excalibur makes much better than red dots for a xbow, but that is personal preference.
