I have not gone on a Cruise in almost 20 years, and could not care if it was another 20 years. But my wife wants to go on a family cruise with the kids, so I guess I have to go also.

Can someone enlighten me on weather you can bring a weapon with you, if you have CCW.

Not likely.

Wife and I are doing the Alaskan thing...no dice.

Check with the cruise line you are booking. Also - is it leaving the country? If so you are out of luck.

Smoke

Nope. On an intenational cruise- my only experience- you go through security screening just like boarding commercial aircraft. Thinking back on it, it was more like going through customs/immigration entering a foreign country.

No CCW.

Private property, they forbid CCW, and all kinds of legal ramifications come into play when the ships are "flagged" from foreign countries, and out in international waters admiralty law applies, too.

Plus, when you dock in foreign ports, most all of those countries forbid firearms period, much less CCW, so you'd be taking a HUGE risk carrying on a shore tour (foreign prisons aren't fun, I've heard), and might get caught on reboarding the ship.

My advice: don't even try it. Get a heavy blunt object, like a walking cane or baton. Maybe a knife, but some boats and countries frown on certain lengths of knife.

And watch out - drinks are GOOD but VERY EXPENSIVE on board!:D

Have fun if you go!

Glad this topic came up. I'll be going on an Alaskan cruise this summer and was kind of wondering the same thing. That sucks because we'll be staying a couple more days in Seattle after the cruise is over. Would be nice to have CCW there.

Call the cruise line and explain your situation. They may be willing to keep the firearm in custody for the duration of the cruise. A private investigator who was on a cruise I took did that (the cruise line was Norwegian). It doesn't hurt to ask.

I should add that I think they kept the firearm at the departure port, not on the ship itself, so that probably doesn't do you any good.

Find a gun store in Seattle to hold onto your gun for you while you're on the cruise.

If you enter Canada, don't even think about it.

And some cruise lines search you and run your luggage through x ray every single time you enter or exit the ship.

Besides, you're going to be drinking. Just relax and have fun. Take several flashlights.

Would they know if you brought a huge thermos of scotch on board? Do they sample all liquids?

tyme -

I brought four bottles on board, all in my suitcases. No problem; in fact, the room cleaners even arranged them and laid out fresh ice in a bucket and glasses for me each afternoon. (They want tips; they got them!)

Many folks buy booze on shore - some in duty free shops, some in private stores - and bring them on board with no problem. Frankly, I think they talk tough about not letting passengers on board with booze so they'll intimidate you into not trying and just buying their expensive drinks instead, but in my albeit limited experience, they don't have the manpower or time or space to take your booze and store it until the end of the trip.

For that reason, I don't think they'd blink if you brought relatively unobtrusive non-firearm weapons onboard, in your luggage of course, not on your person.

Anyone have other experiences?

Most cruise lines use ships that are registered in the Netherlands or other non-US countries (usually European). IIRC you are to abide by the laws of the nation from which a ship is registered while on board.

I don't know of any country outside of the US and Israel where civilians are allowed to CCW, I'd bet the answer is no.

Well, you need to get out more. I know Germans, Austrians, and Swiss individually who have the right to conceal firearms, and they are not law enforcement people. I don't know anyone who has a CCW in Latin America, but several countries down there permit it. (Mexico does not, as far as I know, in fact it has pretty tight controls on guns generally, though it seems like everyone down there has one.) Some countries have no real regulation of CCW - it's just hard to get a handgun, but if you can get one you can carry it concealed.
