Probably the cheapest insurance you can buy, and IMNSHO, the most important tool on your reloading bench is a set of scale check weights.

These are precision measured little weights that allow you to PRECISELY determine and/or calibrate your scale, at the weight of the powder charge you will be using!

Lyman has an excellent set with an MSRP of $41.50, but you can buy them considerably cheaper if you shop around. There are other brands around as well.

On a digital scale, you simply warm it up, then put the weights in the pan. If the scale weighs within .1 grain of the weight, you're good to go. If not, don't use the scale until it's been re-calibrated.

On a beam balance, you can re-calibrate it yourself with the adjustment knob.

Again, it costs less than a good set of carbide dies, and could well save a few fingers or an eye.

You are so right on with this post, been using the lyman check weights for a while, one of the few things we can really check and have piece of mind in. :)
