(Curious) what kind of handgun for house carry?

So I'm considering a small pistol carried IWB, or even in a pocket holster. I own a wonderful Glock 27, but I feel it's a little heavy and too thick for IWB, maybe in a nice Galco shoulder holster, but I seldom wear an over shirt in my own home. Usually it's some kind of work pant with deep pockets or jeans with a loose fitting T-shirt. So the Glock stays field stripped in my bedroom and than is reassembled before bed.
I generally carry my Glock 17 or 21 in an OWB holster while at home. I often wear loose fitting cover garments (sweater, sweatshirt, camp shirt or vest) which tend to cover even a full size pistol well enough for at home carry.

If I was more concerned about really being discreet (due to wife, girlfriend or room mate), there are still a number of small 9mm guns (LC9, CW9, etc.) that I would chose before stepping down to a .380 pistol. These subcompact, single-stack 9's can easily disappear in a "tuckable" IWB or even a pocket.

I carry my usual CCW rotation everywhere. It has to do the same job regardless of location.

For me, that's a G30,36,or 26.

My suggestions

Beretta Nano, Kahr PM9, Kahr P380, Kimber Solo, or G26. I own each of these and if I am dressed one of these is in my pocket in a DeSantis Nemisis. The G26 is the most difficult to pocket carry but IWB is no problem.

I just use my normal carry gun. And my full size is always close. Nice thing about a studio apartment is I'm always within 10 of all my guns.

Don't understand not open carrying at home. If your already concealing after your activities from outside the home of course. But as far as guests go if they are in my house they better not be hoplophobic!

If the FedEx or whoever stops by I could care less if he's scared of a holstered pistol. I'm not answering the door without a gun on.

Your way better of just open carrying a full sized gun when you can.

Interesting you should ask this now, as I'm currently shopping around for a Sig P238 for the exact same reason. I do plan to carry it out and about as well, but I like the idea of an "always" pistol around the house and the P238 seems to be an excellent contender.
I'm pretty much locked into the .380acp as I already purchased the ammunition for it (Hornady Zmax as I'm fascinated by the green polymer tip). Seriously, I'm unfortunately silly that way.

Now finding one that isn't priced over $700 seems to be the real challenge right now.

I often carry a CZ-75D PCR, Beretta M85FS or my HK P7 around the house, but I also CCW them, so I just leave them on in the house. Large enough to shoot well, but concealable.

Kahr CW9 (9mm 7x1) very small and the size of a Walters P22.. the CW line also comes in 40 S&W and 45acp

There is no reason you need the CCW in your home or property for that matter depending on where you live I guess. You already have the perfect handgun ( G27 ) Get a fobus or some type of paddle holster that is easy on easy off and your set. I always OWB carry at home, I am not worried about my wife, 2 kids, dog, cat wrestling my gun to use it on me in my home. :)

I agree with Todd G...

Get a paddle holster that's fast to put on/take off, and just use your 27. That's what I do.

On non-class days, I leave the house, my gun goes in either a Nate Squared IWB, or Galco Matrix IWB holster. Both are clipped to the belt, so it's easy to put on. No loops. When I get home, I leave the gun where it is. On class days, I put the gun in a Safariland ALS Paddle Holster when I get home, or in one of the IWB holsters. Again, quick to put on. I carry either a G19 or a 26 (All my holsters work with either one). If you want something in an available cartridge, maybe look at a .357 Sig barrel for your 27. I've seen a lot of .357 Sig around lately, and while it's more expensive than .40, it is about the same price as .45, and it's AVAILABLE!

If I were going to actually carry around my house, it would be the same gun I carry out in the world: Taurus 605.

But, I don't carry in my house. I just have guns sprinkled about in easily accessible places, lol. My bedside gun is my XD, I have a S&W 66 hidden, an old S&W 38 special hidden, plus my 605 in it's normal spot and a 1911 loaded for bear tucked away in my most common lounging area.

And, an AR15 in my closet that is my last stand gun.
