Does anyone know the current situation of Steyr? I heard they lost their plant and are no longer importing. Does anyone have any real information? I don't mean rumors. I mean hard facts. I heard they weren't importing from the place I work. It's not super critical for me, I'd just like to know the real story, if there is one.

Thanks.

do a search for steyr on this forum. lots of info about them.

Before jumping all over the guy, I think he is asking about a specific situation and not "is steyr a good gun."

He wants to know if they lost their plant.

I emailed Steyr-Mannlicher this january asking about their new Steyr M-A1 pistol and promptly received a reply that they now had a distributor in the US: www.usasteyr.com and that they were waiting for BATF approval to import their new M-A1 pistol. The email stated that they expected to start importing the M-A1 in late Feb. or early Mar., so far I still haven't heard of the M-A1 being imported to the US. But from the tone of their email they sounded like they were doing OK, and were planning on expanding their presence/sales in the US. This is their main website: www.steyr-mannlicher.com

I don't know what the status of their factory(s) is, but I had heard the same rumors.

Thanks Nero, for the info. When I heard that Steyr wasn't going to be importing, not only did I think it was odd but I had concerns for parts and service of the Tactical Scout I have. It doesn't need any, and I don't plan on beating the hell out of it. I just like knowing that if something breaks I don't have to go through BS to fix it.

The thing I like best about Steyrs pistols is the triangular sights, very natural alignment. I'll probably pick one up but now isn't the most cost effective time for buying guns in my case. I think they managed to build a better Glock, instead of copying it (like S&W).
