I'm building two subcompact 1911's in .45 ACP, generally along the lines of the Kimber Ultra Carry or Colt new Agent. I need to make 3" barrels.
To do this I need unramped barrels which have full diameter, .700 or better, from right in front of the locking lugs on out. Obviously length doesn't matter as long as I can finish to 3".
Can anyone suggest a barrel maker who would be receptive to such a request? Seems to me it would be a simple matter of taking the barrels out of production before diameter reduction or profile machining is done in front of the lugs.
I contacted Storm Lake by e-mail (as they request) and have gotten no reply. In fairness it's only been a few days.
Any suggestions for who might be inclined to work with you on something like this?
