Custom gun question

Might be a dumb question but I have never done it..

If I send a gun off to a smith for some custom work. Do I have to retransfer it again through a FFL when it's completed?

I've sent guns back to the manufacture and received them back. I'm doubting its the same process though.

If you send a gun to a gunsmith for work, he may return it directly to you. It's not different from sending the gun back to the manufacturer for work.

Of course a gunsmith who does this sort of thing needs to have the appropriate federal license.
