Sorry if this has already been discussed, I couldn't find a post on it in the search feature.

There was a rifle featured on the TV show, Law & Order Criminal Intent, last week.

There were two main views provided of the rifle. One was with the barrel pointed at the camera...it didn't look like a large caliber. The other was of the side of the rifle, mostly.

Did anyone see this rifle? Does anyone know what it is? I'm very curious, and I haven't found anything that remotely looks like it.

The people on the scene described it as something like "a custom made US Survival sniper rifle." It may have been US Survivor(?)

It fit in a small suitcase / case. It was take down / breakdown capable.
It looked more like a European designed competition rifle. (Hammerli)
It looked like it was primarily metal construction.
It had a back stock (?) made of folded wire (??)--it looked like a thick hanger wire shaped like a rifle stock.

This gun looked crazy, and very high tech. Compact and light. I would entertain that this thing was a pure fabrication, but there's no way a major TV show creates a custom designed, super high tech rifle for a bit part...right?

I couldn't find anything at all by searching here or the search engines.

Thanks

It was a modified Henry .22LR survival rifle. Even the scope looked like an Aimpoint. I like L&O generally, but like most TV shows I wouldn't trust any gun "facts" they discuss.

I saw that one too, and I agree that the base for the prop was the Henry iteration of the old Armalite AR7. FWIW, I've seen several movies and TV programs where a similar prop was used.

Now that Stembridge is OOB, I wouldn't even venture a guess as to who built the prop. It's MO that all of the mods were purely cosmetic, just to make it look more "high tech", sinister and menacing.

It was implied from the 'action sequence' in the scene that it was sound supressed. Report was a mere "thuup". The prop didn't look as if it was supposed to be to me. The barrel appeared to have a very similar contour to the stock one.

The only way that I can see something like that prop being plausible would be if the barrel was made with an integral supressor and a twist rate to stabilize something like the Aquila "SSS" ammo or its Russian or Isreali equivalents. I also think that a "pro" assassin would be more likely to opt for a telescope over an Aimpoint or the like for a job like that. A .22 RF doesn't leave much margin for error or circumstances, even at 50 yds or so. Especially if you're most likely to get only one clear shot.

Just a personal aside, but I believe that the AR7 platform gets used as the base for props of this sort so often primarily because it's about the only cheap, readily available, modular design out there. Relatively simple and inexpensive to dress-up and make it at least acceptably functional with blank ammo.

Agreed, it was a pimped out AR7 .22 LR.
Nothing that is going to blow out a big exit wound and spray the background with blood as depicted.
But who's complaining? James Bond shot down a helicopter with one. I forget which movie, but one of the early Sean Connery films.

Personally, I really liked the way it looked. It could have used better glass, but the wire stock and grip looked well done.

That's because he's Sean Connery. He could spit at it and it would crash.

If you were referring to the episode where the sniper shot the judge at the famous Hamilton / Burr dual reenactment, the gun in question was a CHEYTAC Intervention M-200.

...to say nothing of actually fire when the shooter pulled the trigger...:D
