A Nashville market that has been robbed more than once was hit again on Wednesday. But this time, a frequent customer risked his own life to help his friend.
Dujuan Marcus Dunlap is the man who police say tried to rob Omid's Market and Restaurant at gunpoint. But he was lucky to get away with his own life.
"We heard some screaming. The lady across the street and her husband own the store. They were banging on the door saying they had been robbed,†said Stephan Britt, who rushed to help.
Britt works across the street from the store. It was his favorite place to eat lunch and he liked the foreign couple who owned it. Britt grabbed his own gun and headed out to help Ebadollah Ghorbani.
"As soon as I walked in the door, the suspect and the owner were flopping around on the floor fighting and there was blood everywhere,†said Britt.
The owner was fighting for his life. Metro Detective Sgt. Norris Tarkington says he had been robbed time and time again.
"They were robbed a few days ago. At that time there were at least two individuals involved. We're going to look it as maybe he was one of them that robbed them a few days ago,†said Sgt. Tarkington.
The gunman's 32 caliber revolver lay on the floor nearby.
"I just went over and held my gun on him and told him not to move until the police got there. It wasn't 60 seconds later the police showed up,†said Britt.
Britt had had training in the use of a gun, but would he have used it?
"If I had to. I told him he didn't need to get up or I would shoot him,†said Britt.
The victim had been pistol-whipped and was rushed to Baptist Hospital for treatment.
"If that had happened to me, I would want somebody to help me if they could,†said Britt.

I'm suspecting the good guy here had his carry permit. "Britt had had training in the use of a gun" TN requires handgun safety classes before a permit is even thought of. If he was ex LEO/Military, it seems the media would have mentioned that. Oh, well.
The man, Britt, was also covered under TN's "Good Samaritan Protection Act" if he had his permit. Very interesting law that gives special rules for when you can use you firearm for saving a life other than your own. (Assalt in progress, rape, etc...) Sounds to me like he had his permit, why won't the news mention it?
