I'm sorry to be posting on such an old thread but this thread is personal to me. Michael Manca was my father. Is my Biological father. I don't know but i don't understand how he got off clean. I think he deserved time for this. There was no pure evidence that i can see that says that it is known that it was for sure self defense. My question is how was he let go when there was so much suspicious factors involved. I don't know all the facts and i want to know!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the crux of it. There has to be evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that it wasn't self-defense. It's WAY too hard to say for sure without seeing all the evidence the police collected (or missed), but the "safe" bet is that the prosecutor felt there wasn't enough hard evidence that it wasn't self defense.

It's a hard thing, but often it's better to let someone who is guilty walk free than imprison an innocent man. It's even more difficult for the victims (and their families).

I am putting this one to bed for good. This happened 10 years ago, many of the original posters have not been on THR in a very long time and I don't really see that there is much to gain from this.
