Thanks y'all. I do hope to get to get her real dirty pretty quick. Of course, y'all know how life goes, I am back out on the road as of today. That's okay though cause not only does that guarantee me several weeks o good pay but I get to build a Gander Mountain!
I did take the time to blank out a new set o grips for the next project before I left (TEASER)

You might consider getting dark walnut grain filler and applying it to that oak, the open pores will absorb it and then after you do your final sanding ad a bit of contrast to the grips. the Open grain will really pop! Very nice work though as it is...

Thanks Woodenbow I like them light blonde. I already have a sealer on them so I don't think they would absorb any stain anyway.
I am making a holster for her now. Last night I glued it up and this am I stitched it , soaked it and jammed the wrapped up gun in there. Tomorrow I'll work her some more when it's dry.

That kind of craftsman ship should have material to match. Check out some woodturners supply houses and look at some bowl turning blanks. Just saying.

Toolslinger, what is that first model space ship?
It looks like one that was in a book I had in the 1980s.

Funny thing, the Serenity looks like one from that book, too.

Wasatch, man I have scoured the interwebs as well as gunsmiths all over the country (I travel for work) for months now without coming up with a single old model Super Blackhawk grip frame. Love to try one but they seem like chicken teeth? Apparently the nifty brass dragoon style (even after market) are crazy expensive and none of the folk that swap out old model Super frames don't want to give them up.
Whughett ,bubba I used to live in big city but now I am 40 miles from the nearest Walmart. I wanted to build me some grips now (and frankly I needed the practice) the local cabinet shop gave me some scraps. The pistol will get better grips later.
Jaymo see my PM.

Beautiful work tool slinger. It looks like you do all sorts of nice things. I would like to,see a few more photos.

Got some nice walnut burl big enough for several sets. I'll ship it to you. Make two sets and send me one. I have a ROA in stainless, assuming they are all the same in size. Serious.

Toolslinger, you have started something, lol. You guys keep it up! I hope to see more of you making grips and holsters too.

Toolslinger I like your grips that you made!! I'm new to the site an saw them just now. The easiest way to drill for those blackhawk emblems are to use a spade bit but you obviously got it right. Probably late in saying so but what Kituwa did is just great!!! I made mine in wild olive wood that is a very dense hard wood with very nice figure. I have also tried cattle horn but by the time you get it straightened out it's mostly too thin. I have a super blackhawk frame that I would like to fit to my old army but the hole for the trigger spring has got me stumped. I have not been able to find a machine shop that can drill it for me. Keep up the fun!!

Thanks Jannas. I very much like those wild olive grips you made. Beautiful work my friend. I started making my grips for the very reason you mention. I wanted a Super Blackhawk frame to put on my ROA but could not come up with one. I finally just made bigger grips:evil:
