I'm thinking 7-08 but maybe .308. The rifle will be a Remington 760, or 7600 if 7-08. The idea is a fast in heavy woods gun for deer, 100 yds and under. Haven't ruled out .35 Rem either. My understanding is that the larger the caliber, the less (proportionally) it will lose in velocity as barrel length is decreased, right? So if say a .308 lost 10% going from 22 to 18, a .243 might lose 15% or more, correct?
