CVA OPTIMA 209 MAGNUM???

Turkey45, I own A New Frontier Cascade Magnum (B.P.I.). It is a spinoff of a C.V.A. , And sold for 150 bucks when new several years ago, and was topped with a 70 buck 3-9x scope. With 3 50gr. Pyrodex pellets and a Barnes 250gr ML bullet, I can prove 3.5" group at 200 yds! Though I feel 3 50gr pellets is a bit much for Whitetails here in OHIO, It is nice to have exra velocity for 170-200 yd shots across long fields. A bipod helped this much. They are not of U.S.A. quality, but I've not experienced any major problems.

I have one that I haven't had the opportunity to fire yet. My initial impression is that it feels solid, and I like the feel of the stock.
I've done a little searching and there are rumors that they don't really proof their magnum barrels for 150gr of powder. There have also been a couple stories of guns blowing up with 150gr of powder. I've heard enough that I might be inclined to go with a TC if I wanted to use 150gr of pyrodex.
That being said, 100gr of Triple 7 (supposedly comparable to ~120-125gr of pyrodex) is enough for my uses.

Doesn't anybody use a side lock w/PRB and the Holy Black anymore? Try it, and know what BP hunting is REALLY like!

I shoot only side locks and loose powder. For most hunting, I do use a conical though. Nothing but PRB for target shooting or small game.
I've heard too many stories of barrels blowing up with 3 pellets. People get seriously hurt when that happens. If memory serves, CVA has been sued for that and had to reorganize afterwards. I'd be hesistant to fire a max load in one.

It took me about 30 seconds on google to find this. Probably less time than it took you to register and make your wonderfully insightful first post.
btw, it should be noted that, according to Hogdon, 1 pellet of Triple 7 is equivalent to more than 50gr of BP. IIRC, 2 pellets is around 120-125gr eq. so putting 3 pellets of Triple 7 in any gun is a playing with fire.
I'd suggest you go back to wherever you came from and come back when you have some manners.

so rest asure im safe,my friend has a t/c black-diamond rifle
magnum,,it was a (nose buster for sure) but he just had to try it,
and he was using perodex,,,myself i think the company,s are

BPI New Frontier Cascade Magnum 50 Cal
I too have one these Models I bought mine 2 years ago , But I shoot my 54 Cal Hawken most of the time, Ok Enough said time to break out the New Frontier Magnum, I have been reading the post on the BPI 50 Cal, First user of Pyrodex 50/50 Am I right the 50/50 means each Pellet is 50 Cal at 50 Grains Each am I correct..?? I have been wanting to try the Triple 7 has anybody had any luck with this Powder ,Yes I have been told ONLY USE Max of 2 Pellets of this, What Grain of PowerBelts have you users used with very good results with this Muzzle Loader. Does anybody have any Ideas where I can get a replacement manual ?? My bad luck mine was lost.

i have one in 45cal 4x weaver scope and shoot 80 grains of rs over a 250 power belt. it will shoot a 2 inch group at 100 yards off a sand bag rest. if i put more than 90 grains in it the the groups open up to over 6 inches i think the belt blows out on the power belts. i have never seen any muzzle loader that shoots good groups with over 100 grains of powder

Randy Wakeman is a joke. Ever see him mentioning how Savage had barrel busting problems"ask toby bridges about his old savage"? I've ever heard of TC having problems with their centerfire barrels exploding.
TC back in the 1970s had a bad problem with their barrels bursting.
CVA in 95 and 96 had an issue with their breech plug design causing barrels to explode.
CVA since BPI took over, has increased their quality greatly and even took it a huge step forward by going with the Bergara barrel that you will now get with their new model of CVA muzzle loaders.
I've seen posts where people are asking about loading a SMALL quantity of smokeless powder in their muzzle loader just to see how it does. People with encores are doing it and if it blows up, thats their own fault for being stupid and not following manufactures rules.
3 pellets in a CVA is safe, You dont get the full story when you hear ( My muzzle loader blew up on me!)
I once was told about a muzzle loader blowing up and i also took notice to "My friend said he saw me push the load down!"

I've shot 150 grains of RS 'loose' out of an Winchester X-150 with a 245/295 powerbelt. A couple hundred rounds of that and zero problems.
I also accidently shot my ramrod out of it along with a 385gr great plains conical with 90gr RS. Zero problems other than my ramrod being bent into the shape of an S.
RW's articles about good and bad should not be taken to the heart as he tends to over do it and when you email him about it,Will NOT give you any information about the subject and tends to get real nasty with you.
You dont see him or Toby Bridges bad mouthing Green Mountain Barrels for their cheap Helicoil fix on brand new barrels do ya?

just like what frontier posted thats old news using old technology on barrels and guns that were recalled. Since the recall they did i believe in 97. there has not been any more exploding barrels.
