CVA scout VS Henry single shot?

I have a CVA Scout in 444 Marlin caliber with a factory muzzle break. Very accurate and I highly recommend.

You have a factory muzzle brake on your CVA break barrel rifle. ;) just teasing since the folks above were having a spelling lesson. I was never very good at spelling and autocorrect has only made me worse at it.

45-70 is just easier for me, I've got a ruger 77/357 that I technically could use if I left the magazine at home and just used it as a single shot . I considered it as I have an excellent 150 yard load . I think dedicated hunting single would be a good investment ;)

Say my friend it has been awhile.

Question I have is in regards of that Ruger77/357. Have you checked on line to see if there is a magazine sled for that rifle to make it a single shot? I know they have them for many of the Savage and Remington rifles.

Also which rifle are you shooting the 45-70? Isn't that a lever rifle?

Hey!

I could definitely use the 77/357 or the lever action Henry (45-70) but I figured I'd pick up a simple inexpensive single shot specifically for hunting. Really don't want to put a scope on my henry, so new single shot with a new scope and I'm just trying to decide what my best path is.

As I understand , I could just leave the magazine at home and single load but I think it's a good opportunity to pick up something new

Knowing what your likes/dislikes are and your intended use I think I would go with the CVA and then put some nice glass on it.

If you go that route in 45-70 I'd sure like to try it out.. BTW I haven't come across any more decent brass for ya.

Don't forget that Traditions is making a break action single shots now. I had a CVA in 44 magnum that was horribly inaccurate.
Never knew, I'll check them out. Thanks!

I'm told CVA's barrels are made by bergara, I was under the impression the barrel was the best part of the CVA.

Going to look at the traditions offerings.

#1. The thing on the barrel that mitigates rise and recoil is a”brake” like on your car.
#2. Site is a place, Sight is what you use to aim over.
#3. Vise is a holding device. Vice is a bad habit or deviant behavior.
That said, I’m using a single shot, break open rifle without a brake chambered in 357 magnum which I bore sighted and verified at 100 yards distance from the bench site.
Sorry to be an ass about it. No, I’m not.

The CVA offerings look like a good way to try out a new caliber in some hard to find offerings. 35 Whelen calls to me sometimes.

My .44 Magnum CVA shoots just fine. I may have said this already, a few days ago I was back home and went to the range with my new 1895 GBL to do some practice shooting and get a little break in on the rifle. It was a busy day and nearly every slot was taken. I would say that at least 1/3 of the rifles were CVA Scouts, a few CVA muzzleloaders V2s and some Henry single shots to round it off. None of them seemed to be having any difficulty pelting the targets plenty fine for killing a deer.

I think this MOA thing, is it a thing(?), is getting out of hand. These are not bench rest rifles, they are hunting rifles and low end ones at that. As to accuracy and the .44 Magnum, I am shooting cast lead and the FTX bullets and another Hornady 240, forget what it is and I am getting good groups, not MOA but good enough considering I have a cheap 2.5X scope with pretty thick cross hairs. The Bergara barrel is smooth and has cleanly cut rifling. I need to slug the bore.

I don't have any experience with the Henry single shots, but I do have a CVA Scout in 300BLK that I have been very pleased with. The trigger is excellent, and the rifle is made with hunting in mind.

I'm sure a model in 45-70 would be a shoulder thumper, but I assume you are prepared for that.
