Just wondering, do CWP apply to other restricted weapons like butterfly-knifes, spring-loaded knifes, .... etc? In Virginia (where I live), I heard its illegal to buy certain knifes or atleast carry them ... wondering if its legal with a CWP.

There is no such thing as a CWP permit in Virginia. VA issues a permit to carry a concealed handgun and that's all it applies to. Carrying any other type of concealed weapon is illegal regardless of whether the weapon is legal or illegal to own.

some states. your license does grant you extra privileges

in MA your FID ( license for a "non hicap" long gun) grants you the "privilege" to buy and carry Mace. Though there is also a Mace specific FID ( classD) that does not allow firearm or ammo purchase/possesion

The AZ CCW allows you to carry any legal weapon concealed. As per my first instructor: "That means if you want to walk the streets with a sword in a trenchcoat like The Highlander, then you can with the permit." :D

We commonly use the term "concealed weapon", but in fact the laws usually specifically say handgun. And when the license law says handgun, it does not mean sawed off shotguns or AK-47's; some folks who have seen too many movies have found that out the hard way.

State by state.

Texas is only for handguns, Florida is for weapons (with some exclusions of course)

There is no single answer.

What he said. My WV permit is a "Concealed Pistol/Revolver License" and my PA is a "License to Carry Firearms."

I'm pretty sure in Michigan you can conceal an AK or similar rifle if it doesn't have a stock and is considered a "pistol" or if exclusively in the state of MI if the rifle has a folding stock and is between 26-30 inches folded, it's a pistol.

So it seems possible that one may be able to retract the stock on their.....Galil for example and put in under your coat and walk around with it.

Oh these fantasies turn me on.:D

Colorado's permit is "concealed handgun" only. One of the local gun shops has a small display case with knives that are only available to LEO, according to the sign on the case.

If I remember correctly, a "knife" is defined by CO law to have a blade of 3.5" or more. Further, a knife is a weapon and can't be carried concealed. So you can wear your hunting knife on your belt, but don't put it in your boot.

TexasRifleman has it correct. Each state is different. Some permits cover a variety of lethal and less-than-lethal weapons, others cover only handguns (and may call them that, or may call them pistols & revolvers).

There is no substitute for reading the law of the jurisdiction about which you have questions.
