So I bought a used Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm off gunbroker. When I was in the store today (FFL it was sent to), we took it apart to make sure everything was in order. I took out the main pin holding it together and gently pulled the top and bottom apart. The plastic buffer which is supposed to be attached to the recoil spring via the guide rod, wasn't, and fell off and onto the floor. All of my friends have CX4's and I've never seen this. We took a new CX4 off the display shelf, did the same thing and it became obvious that I didn't break the thing just by taking it apart. It was broken to begin with. I guess my question is, has anyone else had a CX4 with a broken/split buffer, and did they just replace the buffer to fix it, or was there more involved? Thanks. Attached are some pictures of the buffer and the schematics page from Brownells. The buffer is part #22 on the schematic which wonderfully isn't in stock. :(

Nope...haven't seen it.

This is the sort of thing that Beretta ought to make right; since the problem is not due to usual wear. I'd give them a call and send in your gun.

I'd also get back to the seller and demand a partial or total refund, post haste.

It's a used gun and a plastic part.

Mayby Beretta will do something for you, worth a call.

The seller may or may not have known that it was broken. It was a used gun, probably unknown round count?

Brownells does show the entire guide rod and spring assembly for $31.51 and it is in stock.

If a call to Beretta dosen't do the trick I'd probably just buy the part and call it weapon maintenance.

Yeah, ended up ordering it from Brownells. They're rather quirky at times. More than once, I've back-ordered something because it wasn't in stock and I still got it in 2 days, which is what happened with this.

Not an isolated problem!

I just had this break on my CX4, went to Brownells, they're out of stock, not going to have another shipment for a month (as of 5-15 when I backordered it). I still haven't gotten it. When I griped to Brownells, they just said, "We're the sole parts supplier for Beretta USA, take it or leave it." She obviously didn't care how long my gun was down.

I elevated this to Beretta USA, they sent me a very diplomatic note saying, "Hey, that and the recoil spring are consumable parts, you should expect them to break!" Well, if they're consumables (BTW, I don't see that in the manual, like "Replace every 1000 rounds, etc."), you damned well better have an abundant supply of said consumables on hand or thy customers will rise up and smite thee.

Google "CX4 broken buffer" and you'll find almost as many entries as if you Google "Beretta customer service sucks."

Great gun, bad part, bad design, bad service.
