Hello all,

Not sure where to post this, revolvers or blackpowder. So I'll start here.

I recently bought a R&D cylinder conversion for my .44 cal 1858 Remington. It now shoots .45 Long Colt cartridges beautifully.

I am now considering buying the Kirst Konversion w/loading gate for my .44 cal 1851 Navy US Marshal(Pietta). It will shoot the .45 Schofield or the .45 Long Colt if bullet is seated slightly deeper. Although the loading gate requires modification to the gun (only a couple hours with a dremal), it is such a pain in the rear to break this gun apart - I think it'll be worth it.

So have any of you out there had any experience with the Kirst Conversion? If so, I would be most grateful to hear your report.

Thank you.

bp revolver + drop in cylinder = non modern firearm.

bp revolver + permanenct cartrdige conversion, ie user cuts a hole in recoil shield =
means the user has created a modern firearm, and hence if he wants to sell it he must use the services of a FFL dealer for background check, etc of any potential buyer.
and because it becomes a modern handgun in opinion of ATF boys, you may or may not be able to own it in every state and jurisdiction, and youll probably have to register it in some states as well.

However, id like to get a kirst converter with gate for a 51 colt and cut the barrel down a bit, and make a real fancy ejector rod system for it.

Good info Bezoar, thank you. Something to think on. As I never plan to part with this gun, I believe I am gonna go with the Kirst w/loading gate.
Yeah, this 51 has the nice n' short 4 1/2 barrel. Out of the holster real quick, perfectly balanced, and just feels 'right' in my hand. I shoot better with it than I do with my 58 Remmie, even though the barrel is half the length.
If you plan on purchasing a 51, try out the U.S. Marshal = no barrel mod needed.

Slán go foill.
