Taurus mod 44. Can I tap a lead slug thru the cylinder and get a fairly accurate of the size I need for my cast bullets. Right now I am sizing to .429 with gas check 250 gr. SWC bullets. Bhn is 10. Thanks.

That's the way I do it. Basically. I number the chambers, tap a soft slug through, number that to the chamber. Measure each one with a micrometer.

Then I do the same thing to the barrel and measure that.

I'll ream out the chambers until they are just slightly bigger than the bore and uniform in size.

The exact measurements you need can be found online as far as SAMI specs go.

Lately, I've been hearing about a lot of oversized throats. That's a lot harder to fix. Tight throats are easier.

Good luck. Go slow and use lots of oil on the reamer.

This will give you one measurement but may not give you all if the gutters weren’t all the same.

If you buy a set of pin gauges you can not only get the measurements of each cylinder chamber mouth, you can check your other guns, too.

Just an idea. :)

Stay safe.

Can you buy just the size pins you might need or do they come in a set of several. Thanks

This is what I’m going to do so that I can check all my DA revolvers. I’ve had my SA cylinders all checked/honed out.

I’m not super concerned about my barrel bore…but a forcing cone needs a good evaluation as well, IMO.
