On my remmy i noticed when i back the hammer the cylinder want turn. I took it apart and the spring on the back of the hand was broken. Im guessing thats the problem because when i point the gun downward the cylinder will rotate but when i point the muzzle end up the cylinder want turn. I took the cylinder out and backed the hammer and the hand was barely coming out of the frame so has any of you ever had this problem. If it is the hand were is the best place to buy spare parts its a 58 remmy pietta 44 cal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that's the problem - broken hand spring. VTI Gun Parts, Dixie Gun Works, etc. as mentioned above.

Parts availability is one of the things I like about the Pietta repros. I'm thinking about buying 2 complete sets of guts and springs for my Remington New Army Piettas, just because it's so affordable to do so.

In a pinch you can fabricate a new hand spring out of a heavy bobby pin (it helps to have women in the house). I did that two nights ago and it works fine. You need a vise, chisel, small hammer and a bobby pin. Measure the full length of the spring mounted in the hand, with a thin chisel flare the crimp on the hand where it holds the spring just enough to remove the spring. Cut the bobby pin to length and bend the curve in it with needle nose pliers. Then grind or file a couple of notches opposite each other about 1/8" from the end you are inserting into the hand and then pound the crimp back down onto the spring. Take the chisel and peen the hand's crimp over the notches so the hand can't come out and you are good to go. I use two thin wood lath chunks to hold the hand so the vise teeth don't mar the hand. By just replacing the spring and not the hand you are able to keep the original dimensions of the hand and avoid all the frustrating fitting that goes with many a new part.
