CZ 452 vs Savage MKII

I noticed on "Steel Chicken" they recommend a CZ 452 over a Savage. But the Savages are competitive. My cheaper CZ outshoots my more expensive one so it depends on the individual gun, ammo, practice and luck of the draw. It seems the CZ has a slight edge in competition with a little trigger adjustment on the average.

Who told you that? Looks like some good shooting to me.
I agree, if the group pictured was shot at 50yds. that'd be a different story, but at 200 that's pretty darn good if you ask me.

:)

The .204 is also a Savage...It used to be called the Model 12 LRPV but now Savage lists it as the Model 12 VLP-DBM (mine doesn't have the DBM) but otherwise it's the same model. With the .204 I'm shooting flatline straight....with the .22 I'm literally lobbing them into the target. And thanks guys for the compliments on my shooting but I've seen people shoot better than that. All I do is get my scope aligned and put the crosshairs on target and squeeze...the gun does the rest.

I have 4 CZ's and a Remington version of the CZ 99. All of them had to have trigger work done to them before they were acceptable to me for hunting and plinking. I don't know why CZ would produce quality rifles and have such crappy triggers on them. Since I get tired of paying someone to fix my screw-ups, I had them all worked on by gunsmiths, cheaper to pay to have it done than pay to fix it. For the difference in price, I would go with the Savage as a no-brainer. If you want a CZ, keep an eye open for a nice used one or save $ for one while shooting the savage. None of my CZ's have a set trigger, that would make a difference, but even more expensive. The best CZ I have is the 452 Sil., not pretty but very solid shooter and a well fitted and fitting stock design. DP

Well I can finally stop the whining! I went a put a deposit down on a MKII BV today. I think $480 is a good price here in OZ!

Will run a 100 rounds through it then see if the accutrigger can be lowered run another 900 rounds through it and get a rifle basix if I want a lower pull!

I recently shot a "bottom of the barrel" synthetic .17 HMR Savage bolt action and was really impressed with accuracy of the rifle...1/2" groups at 100 yards!!!

Regarding the CZ 455, I think the barrel on mine is a bit too whippy and would like a slightly heavier one. The good news is that barrels on that receiver are replaceable by removing screws. The bad news is that barrels are replaceable by removing screws...not as solid as the 452, but with a bit of high-strength Locktite, much better than without.

I think you made a good choice. That particular model has a good stock (made by Boyds) and the heavy bbl; IMO those upgrades are well worth the additional loot.

:)

Congrats on the purchase andym! I hope it shoots well for you.

Well I hope so, I won't be able to post results, till about mid Jan! We have a 28 day waiting period here to acquire!

Well, I have had the Savage about a month now. I think all things considered, for the money I made the right call. The MKII seems to shoot well whatever I put through it, though not so well with power points.

It likes T22, CCI standard and Federal Standard. I have not bothered trying the expensive ammo as its tack driving with the cheap stuff!

Here is a group using Federal standards at 100 yards off the bench, is a ten shot group/string!

The shots to the left are sighters!
