I'd appreciate any opinions/info on how the CZ 453 American compares with Ruger's 77/22. Specifically, how do the two compare in terms of quality of construction, fit/finish, reliability, and accuracy? Also, I know that the CZ 453 has a single set trigger (which should be pretty good for benchrest shooting), but how is the stock trigger on Ruger's 77/22? Thanks.

I think CZ rifles have extremely nice bluing, can have gorgeous wood to just plain wood so it is usually a good idea to buy one in person, the over all fit & finish is great though. They are extremely accurate rifles and most rate them as being worth much more than what they actually sell for.

The Ruger is a fine rifle and will most likely have a horrible trigger but you can fix that with an after market trigger. Should be good accuracy but will probably not shoot as well as the CZ.
In my opinion you will get a better rifle in the CZ than you will with the Ruger.

The Bottom two are a couple of my newest CZ's. I had them in the garage last night performing trigger jobs on both. They are the 452's, one is a 17HMR and the other is a 22mag. I just picked up the 22mag yesterday. The picture does not do it justice as it really has nice wood.

For what I have seen Ruger 77/22s going for, compared to what CZs cost, I would say CZ hands down.

If they were both the same price... I would still say CZ. :)

actually , they look quite similar, like a couple of the same dudes in the same factory a long time ago, came up with similar designs. they both have excellent fit and finish , use nice wood, have deep bluing. The similarities end there. you cannot have it explained to you, that you can set the cz trigger down so lo, that if you put your finger on it, and begin to THINK, about moving the trigger, it jumps off!!! I cannot tell you how many cz rifles i have sold at the range, by letting guys test drive mine, and get that huge grin on their face, once they have taken the shot.
As far as accuracy goes, it is no contest, really , at all. Cz hands down.

I agree. Fit finish is good on the Ruger but it's fantastic on the CZ. The trigger on the Ruger just plain sucks, Where as the single set trigger on the CZ is brobably the best trigger avalible in a production rifle today. Accuracy is probably even between the two (yes I've shot both). But the kicker is when you take into account the borderline retarded pricing of Rugers it should be a no brainer.

I would have quickly said the CZ up until recently.

Now, I am not so sure. You should handle them both. I own five CZ .22s and one recently acquied Ruger 77/22. If I had to go with one, I would probably give the nod to the CZ. Especially, since you specified a 453 (which I don't own yet) with its single set trigger.
