Seeking advice from an experienced CZ-52 owner.

Seems that every 2nd or 3rd time I disassemble my CZ-52 for cleaning, I end up bleeding with a gouge in at least one finger. When removing the recoil spring and barrel, there is sufficient tension that it inevitably 'bites' me when the rollers clear the guide.

Am I missing a trick? I typically hold the slide inverted in my left hand while using a screw driver or punch to push the roller assembly forward to the guides.

Love this ugly little pistol, even with the cruddy sights, terrible trigger and 'practical joke' ergonomics because of the cheap ammo and big flash/bang.

Thanks for any/all advice.

Jam the largest punch that will fit into the hole in the bottom, hold the punch in your strong hand and the slide in your weak hand.
If you do it slowly to get a feel for the path it has to take, then a single decisive motion will be possible.

I don't remember what size punch, I have a handful of steel punches in the cleaning/smithing kit, and the largest one in there is the right size for me.

The original method is by using the heel of the magazine - just in front of the hole is a slot for it. It is a very good method, but it is easy to bend the heel.

Bigfatdave gave good advise!....Mizar's method is another way and he's correct that it's the original method quoted in the manual. However I find the correct punch size (method) is much easier. No boo boos here.

There's quite a bit of info out there for cleaning up the trigger and it does make a big difference. Check "Makarov.com"

I thought that there was a special tool, or maybe it was just in the armorers kit, or after market, that could be used.

A punch works fine, I wouldn't waste ammo money on a special tool.

The tool you are thinking of is probably on Harrington's site (linked above) if you really want one.

Thanks to all

I appreciate the advice. I had started with the mag floor plate, but with the stronger spring installed, it bent and still bit me. I'll try a snug fitting punch and see if I can save my little piggies some further grief.

Thank you once again

I used whatever I had handy, usually a round of 7.62x54r. . I sold my CZ 52, it was too abusive and I could not hit the broadside of a barn with it. I did love the muzzle flash though. I replace it with CZ82.

I keep hearing this, and yet mine is beat-up and shoots fairly well.

The recoil is stout and ... ... odd, I suspect because of the roller-locked breech. Mine tries to get away upwards when I fire with winter gloves (solution, skip gloves without a sticky layer).

Disassembling with a punch is easy enough that I got the right size punch just for the cleaning box, it cost less that $3, possible in the $1.50 range ... please don't destroy your magazines by using them as a primitive prying tool.

I have to agree with Dave as far as not using the mags. I literally bashed the floor plate back to flat, so it is usable. But... could see ruining them quickly.

2 mags with the weapon, both needed new springs.
1 after market mag - really poor fit - has to be pried out of the magwell.
3 more import magazines, two needed new springs.

So to Dave's [implied] point - mags are scarce enough to not wantonly destroy them.

I guess I'm lucky - even with surplus ammo, mine cz seems to be as accurate as I can be [if you discount the occasional flier due to lousy ammo] out to 25 yds. The only thing I don't like is that I can never be more than 8-9 lanes from the far right in order to avoid hitting people with the ejecting cases :what:

Thanks to eight and fastcast for the manuals - I'm sure that they will come in handy.

Save some $$ go to Home Depot pick up a couple of 4-1/2" nails and cut off the points. The nails I use are .195 Dia. Keep a little leverage on the nail towards the barrel and pull the barrel forward, the barrel & spring will just snap out. Take your barrel with you and get the largest dia that will fit in the hole.

The 52 is the fastest field strip of any handgun I have (If I use a nail)

If anyone could point to a video of a fast tactical reload on one of these- that would be great.

In ref to Mizar (Post #4), Please note that if you bought your CZ52 when they were sold in a kit with manual, holster, lanyard, cleaning rod and two magazines, one of the magazines would have a floorplate slightly bent from using it as a takedown tool. :)

The barrel has a hole for a punch or similar tool and a slot for a magazine floorplate toe. Either method is a design intent but mags are scarce and replacement floorplates unavailable (at least around here).

I took a cheap screwdriver and cut the shaft to make a CZ52 takedown tool with a handle (much easier to use than a round punch). I still have occasional ouch! moments, but if the recoil spring lacks bite, it ain't going to handle thermonuclear 7.62x25mm.

With the right ammo, shooting the CZ52 is a personal fireworks display. Love it!
