Got a CZ 527 in 7.62x39, wanted to add a compact low power scope. Don't plan on real long ranges, probably <200yds for eastern deer. Was thinking of the Nikon Monarch African 1-4x. Any thoughts on it or other recommendations? Would also like it set lower than the standard high CZ rings. Any ides of there is a medium set that might work, or if the bolt has to be modified? Thanks.

A 3-9x32 would be a good choice too. Redfield also has the 2-7x32 priced right.

Thanks for the scope ideas, has anyone tried putting it on a 527 with a lower set of rings? I'm just trying to avoid the really high CZ set.

Warne makes nice CZ rings. Check them out. I had a CZ 527 carbine in .223 and I used Warne riings. You just have to make sure the scope clears the front sight.

The 527 is a light, compact rifle. You don't want to screw up its handling with a 13oz 3-9x40.

From what you said, you want to hunt at 200 yards and less. 4x is plenty for that, and if your talking 100-150 yards for most shots, you can do with even less magnification.

On the HEAVY side look at something like the Burris 2-7x26 : its a bit chunky for a compact rifle, at 11oz.

Other alternatives are one of the many 20mm objective fixed 4x units. these weight about 8oz, and will preserve the handling of the rifle.

Also worth looking into is the Leupold Ultralight. This is a 2.5x fixed power scope, weighting a scant 6oz. This unit will handle almost like a naked rifle. The magnification is pretty low, but its enough to shoot out to 200 (about like shooting 50 yards with Irons).

There is an option for mounting, seen here, the Picatinney rail adapter. I had to use it with a low set of Weaver rings to allow this Bushnell to clear. CZ sells the rail on thier website.
I use it for a scope that is too big for one reason - the scope was free. :) I want to get the Redfield 2-7 later, when I can afford it.

Used to be Kalinka optics sold a scope for the AK that had holdovers for different ranges built into the reticle. It came with a side mount, and there was one that didn't have a side mount, but was a regular riflescope. The one I had on an AK was pretty clear glass. I remember at the time thinking that the standard scope would go well on one of these CZ rifles.

Good luck in your choice. I love my 527 and am considering another.

if using a scope with a obj smaller than 40mm, then I would think that if cz makes a set of medium rings, then they would work. Such as a scope with a 32 or 36mm obj.

Good to know the 2-7 fits with with low rings. But I'm tempted by the fixed leupold 4x. Does anyone know if the 33mm size prevents it from fitting? Also, any thoughts on an old weaver k4?

Now if I could only find those Warne low rings. From Warne's own page I don't see that they exist, just med and high. Am I missing something, or were they discontinued?
