I have a Baby Eagle .40 and I don't like the shape of the hammer, it is hard to cock. I know that the BE and CZ-75 are nearly identical internally, I used a CZ-75 takedown guide to detail strip my BE the other day. So my question is could I use a CZ-75 hammer (ring-type) in my BE? The parts look the same when I compare them, but I know that looking the same and having the same tolerances is a world of difference.

How difficult is replacing a hammer, is it a drop-in piece or does it need to be carfully fitted to the sear, etc? Is this something complex/dangerous that I should have a gunsmith do. or something simple that I can do with hand tools at my workbench?

Thanks for your help.

The hammer from a Witness should work (they're more or less the same gun). The BE is a copy/clone of the Cz75. The Witness and BE are basically the same gun.

The Baby Eagle and CZ are NOT nearly identical internally. Almost no parts are interchangeable (as is the case with CZs and nearly all of the Tanfoglio-based guns). Some key parts are dramatically different.

The earliest Tanfoglio guns, back in the 80's were similar, and with each passing year, they divurged more and more.) They share the same basic design, but that's about it.

Things like the safety, extractor and extrator pin, hammer mechanism, trigger pin sizes, firing pin block mechanism, grips, many springs, etc. are greatly different. Even the mags are different, but mags will generally function well interchange, unless you've got an OLD CZ-75. Slides don't interchange, ejectors are different, widths are different, etc.

As suggested, a WITNESS PART (Hammer) might work in the Baby Eagle -- but I have no experience with swapping parts between those two lines.
