CZ 75B .40 Mag question- gurus please!

Picked up my first CZ used, a 1999 75B in .40 . Gun seems as if it has had very few rounds through it. Cleaned it up and lubed and am gonna go test it tonight.

The question- it came with two mecgar 10 round mags, they have a thick plastic butt plate. There is no way in the world 10 rounds are going to fit in there, it was all I could do to get 9 in. Also, even though the last round went in with a lot of force, it seems like is is all internal friction causing it, not spring pressure, as the top rounds pop out of the magazine very easy, and when it does the next round does not snap up into position smooth and quick, it sort of pops up like it was an oil damped spring or something of the sort. Is this normal?

I am not convinced they are going to feed well.

How are the 12 round mec-gars?

That's one I have no personal experiance with. I think MecGar is the OEM for many CZ magazines, so buying the MecGars is a good idea. If you have any problems with the individual mags, contact the manufacturer.

I don't know that I qualify as a guru but, I do carry a .40 S&W 75B I just went & double checked all of my magazines are MEC-GARS & I THINK if the magazines are that tight you probably got new ones.

That said I use 12 rounders for carry they work find & I think Midway USA sells them for ( let me dig out the catalog) 25.49$

Now to find out why DW is pricing magazines for that POC Llama

I have a couple dozen 12rd Mecgars for my CZ75 40S&W pistols, and they are all high-quality and work without issue. They have metal baseplates, and hold an actual 12rds.

Copes Distributing and others normally sell these for around $21/each.

Maybe it is, in a manner of speaking. Try taking it apart (easy) and cleaning it. Use no, or a bare minimum of, lubrication when reassembling it.

It was an ammo problem- The Federal 180gn hardball had a bullet profile that was rubbing on the inside of the mag tube. 165gn ,no problem. Gun runs like a top!

The CZ 40 was the first CZ I ever shot, at a range. Liked it so much I bought the 9mm version as my second CC gun. Still have it.

CZ ships it's guns with a variety of different mags. I've been able to identify 4 types in .40S&W alone. All work fine, but some are better than others.

My CZ40B mags were tight like that, but now I can fit 10, still tough getting that last round in. Sometimes the CZ 10 rd mags are really tight. Use the mag loader that came with your gun and squeeze the last round in there. If you still can't, leave it loaded with 9 for a while to get the mags to set. Load and unload it a few times to exercise the spring. Using a ruler or a pen or wooden dowel to rapidly push the follower down and then release it, to exercise the spring and wear in the follower a bit wouldn't be a bad idea. Sometimes you need to break a new mag in a bit and it's easier to do it that way vs. firing lots of expensive ammo. Never had an issue with FMJ of any weight.

Also, have you taken the mag apart and cleaned it? Many of my mags came with grease or oil in them as a preservative. that will attract dust and grit. I always take new mags apart, soak with breakfree CLP then wipe them down until they are clean and dry with no stickiness. A shot of dry silicone spray inside the mag body wouldn't hurt either.

I have 6 of the Mec-Gar 12 round mags that I use with my CZ40B and CZ75B. Good mags. Easy to load, no jams or feed issues. The only problem I had with them is that I can't load 165gr Golden Sabers in them. The rounds are too long or the bullet is too blunt nosed or something, but they jam up in the mag's body before I can get 7 or 8 rounds in. I switched to 155gr Gold Dots as my carry load and that problem went away.
