cz 75b SA, any better than the regular?

Yes and no....Since its SA only, you don't have the reach to deal with, but it still has the hammer camming that gives you all the creep. I like the flat trigger better, too.

Earlier models of the 75B SA didn't have the camming. Now, apparently, ALL CZs have it.

It takes a gunsmith recutting the sear/hammer hook angle to fix that problem.

Consider ordering the gun new from the CZ Custom shop, and have them do an action job. It'll cost a bit more, but by ordering from them, you don't have to pay extra shipping to get the work done. (They can ship to a dealer in your area.)

Folks rave about the work the custom shop does.

I totally agree with JD. I prefer the SA but it's solely for the consistent reach to the trigger. I would say the trigger is the same, you just don't have to transition between DA/SA.

I really like the CZ-75b and SA, but I just can't understand why they won't or can't make the factory trigger better. I'm sure many people would be willing to pay more money for a CZ-75b or SA without the camming issue.

I just purchased a EAA Witness elite match 9mm for that reason. I've always liked the CZ platform (especially the SA version) but refuse to buy another until/unless they address the trigger creep. The Witness may have a reputation for shoddy customer service but I really like all the features on the elite match combined with a SA trigger, pre and over travel screws etc. If it's as accurate as a CZ (and I can't see why it wouldn't be) I'll be extremely happy!

Best,
Jerry

I have the Target, and absolutely love it!!! I've shot a 75B a few times, and really liked the feel of it. The Target is my range gun and IDPA gun.

If you can install the competition hammer yourself, for around $70.00 you can have a superb SA trigger for the CZ-75. Done right, it rivals a quality 1911.

Camming is the Achilles heal of the CZ design.

I disagree. It improves it greatly. It gets you close to a stock trigger on a lower end 1911 but that is not an apples to apples comparison. You are comparing a custom CA trigger with a stock 1911 trigger. Do the same amount of work to the 1911 trigger and the CZ is not in the same class. IMHO.

rellascout,

I respect your opinion, but I disagree based on my experience with CZ's and 1911's. Please keep in mind, I stated "when done right". I would love for you to try a couple of my CZ's, really ;)

Took me about an hour to fix my SA trigger, hooks cut, sear angle reduced. Breaks at 2.5#, removed the FPB and lever to reduce reset travel, adjusted the overtravel to just clear the hammer hooks, and since my trigger has no forward travel screw, I glued a piece of plastic to the frame, to limit forward travel. The trigger is awesome, but not quite custom 1911 awesome. Cost.....2 hours of my time:)

JDGray,

What you did can work very well for -0- cost. Removing the FPB can also make a significant difference and I have done this on 3 of my CZ's (I have 8 currently but have owned a lot more).

I had a CZ Tactical Sport a year ago. It had a 2.0# factory trigger that broke like -50 ice, w/o a doubt the best trigger I have ever felt (I'm a big 1911 advocate).

I disassembled the Tactical Sport and found out how CZ accomplished this. It can be applied to any CZ, but you must use the competition hammer. From there you must hand tune, which takes a little time, but the result is well worth the effort.

I also generally remove the trigger and drill and tap for an over-travel screw.

+1.

Rellascout, sounds like you've never felt one "done right" as I've noticed you know a thing or two about good handguns and doubt you'd feel the way you do if you had...
The SA pull on a CZ with a competition hammer and 13 or 15lb hammer spring installed easily hangs with upper teir 1911's, in a CZ born with no FPB or with it removed it's usually BETTER than all but the very best 1911's.

The CZCustoms competition hammer is like magic, should come with every CZ, worth every last penny.

You are obviously one of the "enlightened ones" ;)

I doubt if the factory trigger pull is any better, but if you planned to only carry cocked and locked anyway, there are other advantages, notably the larger thumb safety which is also on both sides of the gun.
