Well, I just got back from a gun show. "DAMN the price gouging is tough". Fortunately, the people who have tables at our gun shows, realize that most people in Wyoming are willing and able to walk past the tables and not pay their ridiculous prices. Because we can buy guns/ammo any place.

Anyway; I've been wanting a 9x18 makarov caliber pistol for a while. I already have an FEG AP-MBP 32acp (7.65). I found a PA-63 9x18 which is EXACTLY the same gun; all interchangeable parts except for the barrel and the magazine. Really wanted it to be a match set with the 32acp version I have. I had the price working down; especially when the guy knew that I knew this gun. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the De-Cocker to work. It worked as a safety, but not as a de-cocker. He called his store (300 miles away) and they had another that worked fine. But; I didn't want to wait until Sunday's gun show.

But then he pulled out a CZ-82. (I got there right as the show was opening, so many vendors were just getting stuff on the tables). It was in the good-very good condition. Very few scratches or heavy wearing. It came with a 2nd magazine. He wanted $299 for the gun. I said no way. He got it down to $250 + tax. I told him I really wanted the PA-63, and luckily I discovered the de-cocker issue because many customers wouldn't have noticed it. He knew that I knew how much these guns SHOULD cost. However, with the market as crazy as it's been, I don't know what the prices have been doing in a while. The cheapest I could find on the internet was at J&G for one in Good shape. It was $180 with only 1 magazine. A spare magazine would be $30. Plus; $22 for S/H. So I figured about $232. Of course, there's the INCONVENIENCE of NOT SEEING the gun and having to ship it to an FFL dealer. So I was willing to pay a little more for convenience.

Well, I did have something he did want. A box of 380 auto ammo. (Wife bought it accidentally at walmart. Yes, they do have some here sometimes). That only cost me $15. So, I told him I'd throw in the box of 380acp ammo, and I'd pay $200 for the gun. And that HAD TO INCLUDE TAX. He finally said OK. So, in reality, I believe it cost me $215 which included tax. Do you think this was a decent deal? If it shoots OK, I think I'm OK with the price. 9mm Mak ammo was stupid prices. Cheapest was $15 for silver bear. I'll order from sportsmansguide.com for $9.40 a box. Anyway, here's a pic. (Not very good pic) Thanks for letting me gloat a little.

Should have kept the 380 ammo and bought a CZ83 to go with your new 82. I really enjoy both of mine. They shoot exceptionally well and have not given me any trouble for a few years now.

I thought about keeping the 380 ammo for some other purpose; but the way I figured it, the seller either wasn't thinking or REALLY wanted the ammo. Prior price got down to $250 plus tax = $265. (And I keep a $15 box of 380 ammo). With the ammo in the deal; the gun was $200, tax included. If I go back to Walmart, I can get more 380acp. At $15 a box, the trade actually netted me $50. I didn't think he'd go for it, but he did.

I don't know the skinny on the latest prices, but I believe CDNN has (or had) CZ-82s in fair/good condition for $149 (one magazine). SOG for a time dropped their prices to at least $189 with shipping at $10.

These days being what they are, who knows what a good price is. What's good today might be great tomorrow... or not so hot.

I'd say, just having the opportunity to look over the pistol before you paid is well worth a couple extra dollars. SOG sent me a great specimen with only a couple chips of paint missing on the handle's front strap, shipping it right to my door (C&R) within 3 days for $9 and change. Total cost for me was around $210, so I'm guessing you did about as well as I did.
Though it came with the unusual ambidextrous holster, it also came with a 2nd 12 round magazine (though with a different base plate, no biggie).

I'm sold on the CZ-82; it's a pistol ahead of its time. I'm still amazed they continue to sell for less than $200 in some places. I'm under the impression they remain "sleepers", with most folks having no idea how great they are.

215 Good Deal, you got to check it out plus the two mags are a plus. I don't order guns because of like the thing you found about the PA-63. Nothing wrong with ordering but with my luck I like hands on first before cash second.

I did a lot of price checking before buying and then after last night, once I had it. Seems like there's the "Fair" condition ones. I've seen these on gunbroker, AIM, etc... price seems to average about $159-$169. I've seen some considered "Good" condition on gunbroker, J&G, and some others. Price seems to average about $179-$189. And the one's I've seen listed as Very-Good (Not counting the customized or refinished or refurbished which can be over $300); the VG were in the $199-$219 price range. And most of these included only 1 magazine; and S/H seemed to average between $20-$30. With spare magazines in the $19-$29 price range. So, I guess what it comes down to is mine considered "FAIR", "GOOD" or "Very-Good"? I definitely know what I would consider FAIR. This one is better than that. The ones I've seen of Gunbroker that the seller claims to be "GOOD" seem to be a bit less on the aesthetics than the one I bought.

I'm not sure if it's close or not; but on gunbrokers, I found 3 cz-82 that look identical. Identical, as in probably from the exact same importer/distributor. Same exact tag attached to the weapon with serial number, model, info, etc... Same accessories in the box. Basically, the same gun. The gunbroker dealer lists one as EXCELLENT CONDITION ($275 starting price) and the other as VERY GOOD Condition ($230 starting price). Both come with only 1 magazine. (Mine, I got the seller to throw in a 2nd magazine). So; assuming it shoots decent; (Find out next weekend); I think I did OK. That's the problem with doing all the pre-buying research. Usually what you find when it's time to pay the cash, is not exactly what you were researching. Thanks for all of your inputs.

Well I ordered some 9x18 ammo (Silver Bear) from Sportsmansguide for $9.47 a box 50. (500 rounds for $94.97). Should be in, in a couple of days. If the CZ-82 shoots as well as most people say it should; I think I will be quite happy with the price. If it doesn't; I guess I wait until the next gun show, and I do some horse trading. But something tells me I'll be OK.

Gorgeous CZ82s are coming in from J&G. $179 well spent by those buying them.

Ditto the J&G Czechs... I bought one several months ago and just bought my dad one. I was able to go to the shop and pick them out. The difference between the very good to excellent was basically in the finish (holster wear).
I bought the cheapest offered (it had a little holster wear) and have since fired about 300 rounds of Wolf through it. No problems whatsoever. Talking with others who have them, same reports- no issues at all.
It's the best $180 pistol available bar none.

After shooting a friends PA63 9x18 and shooting my CZ82 the 82 has less recoil than the 63. After he shooting my 82 he is going to get rid of 63 and get a CZ82.

I don't hesitate on a gun I want that is $50 or less than prices I'd have to pay to buy sight unseen if its in good shape. Figure its less stressfull not having to worry about the condition of what I get, and probably not be much more expensive once transfer fees and shipping are factored in.

I think you did good. You can use the CZ83 .380ACP mags, they will hold 12 rounds of 9x18 compared to 13 of .380.

I agree; but there's no way I believe a P64 is worth $260. Except for the CZ-82, the only other one I would have bought would have been the FEG PA-63. But I'm quite content with the CZ-82. Especially considering all the good things I've heard about them. Magazines aren't an issue. It came with 2, and additional ones are all over the place for about $20. But 2 is enough unless 1 breaks. And according to most forums, most people choose either the CZ-82 or a real MAK; either bulg, EG, Russia, or Chin. Being a lefty; I have to say that I already like the ambi mag release and safety. Guess we'll see this weekend.

Oh man, I bet! I do believe you'll enjoy your CZ-82. I'm not a fan of having two identical pistols, but I've decided on a 2nd CZ-82 as the value is incredible!

I guess the only thing a little discouraging is that there seems to only be ammo in the 95 grain bullet category. The 380acp, which is smaller; 9x17 as compared to the mak 9x18 and the 9mm luger at 9x19, is obviously capable of a larger bullet with a bit more power. Afterall, the 380 has a 115 and 125 grain load data. But with fiocchi, you can get 1100 fps and 265 ft/lbs. That isn't too shabby.

Give the cz 82 a week and a trip to the range and it'll grow on you

Ammo is cheap, and available, you can buy S&B brass and reload if you want to, but the 9 mak is pushing the limits of blowback so be sure of your load data. Besides premium hollow points are available, the components are more expensive than most plinking rounds (bear, wolf etc.)

Finally, check out the CZforum
