I'm getting a hankering for another "commie" pistol. I have been researching the Tokarev but another one I am strongly considering is the CZ-82/83 in 9X18. Especially since I already have a Mak and being able to share ammo between them would be nice. I like the price of the surplus 82's but I am wondering how reliable they are with HP ammo. Are they good or should I plunk down the extra change and get a new CZ-83? Of course I'm assuming the 83's would be made to accept HP ammo. Thanks in advance.

I haven't actually seen one myself, but I understand that some are blued and others have an ugly black-paint finish. If you order one unseen, be sure which finish is being offered.

I have one and love it! Excellent blued finish and it ate all the hp's I fed it without issue (only about 50rds since I ran out of time though).

For the money they are very hard to beat! I much prefer them to a Mak.

excellent bargain and MUCH better than the makrov, the CZ83 is a .380 thats really the only difference, the CZ82 is the military version and 9x18 out of all the ones I'v shot (about 15) every single one has fed hollow points without issue, I have 4 in my collection two are/were unissued still new in the wrap guns (with consecutive serial numbers) the other two were rated "good" by century (all 4 came directly from Century) and are perfect other than the black paint is beat up I'll eventually refinish em with Duracoat...

One thing ya needa understand is that the CZ82 is polygonally rifled the cz83 is standard cut rifling, the CZ82 is far and away more accurate than any other Makrov based gun ya will ever shoot, when ya look down the bore it will look like there is no rifling or very faint this is normal its a TRUE polygonal bore if ya hold the light at the right angle ya'll see the rifling...

Also even my two new ones the paint in the sights was degraded, just clean it out then re-paint with nail polish or what I did was to use "sight brite" green front and red for the dots on the rear, the front is a bar then two dot rear, one of my "good" guns I put tritium vials in rather than paint it came out really nice. The CZ82 sights are far better than a regular Maks sights Plus ya got an Ambi mag release in a western style as well as ambi safty, they have one of the smoothest double action triggers ya'll find on any autoloader, the single action actually sets the trigger back just like a revolver instead of leaving ya with a mile of takeup to deal with etc....

An UNBEATABLE easily concealed gun at a bargain price

Howdy!

A quick correction. The CZ 83's have been available in .32 ACP, .380 ACP and 9 x 18 Makarov. I have a satin nickel CZ 83 in 9 x 18. The CZ 82's and CZ 83's are identical mechanically so if you ever need parts, etc. you can go directly to CZ-USA in Kansas City.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I picked up a CZ-82 at the gun show this morning and am cleaning it now. Can anyone here help me with the disassembly? I've fiddled with this gun for about 15 minutes now and can't seem to get the slide off for cleaning. Thanks for the help.

Be careful of brake parts cleaner or other strong solvents, the plastic CZ uses for the grips will soften if it gets on them. Other than that, great little gun. CZ83 13-round .380 mags will work fine (and hold 12 rounds of 9x18). Except for a minor difference in the baseplates, doubt you could tell them apart. CDNN has had them for $20 each if you need more. My CZ82 came with two mags, but I like to have at least two spares for any autoloader.

I bought a new CZ83 in .380 then about a year later got a surplus CZ82 in 9X18. If I'd bought the CZ82 first I'd probably not have bought the CZ83. I glad it worked out that way. I'm keeping both.
