Yeah, but some to many European countries have laws that ban all guns in 'military calibers'
and what's another name for 9x19 (hint goes like this 9 NATO...)
so that is where the .380 and .32 CZ83 guns come in.

No where else is America
remember that, it doesn't work like that ANYWHERE
in Canada you can order guns via mail, to be delivered to your door, carry a sawed off shotgun, but not posses a 1911 without a huge number of hurdles. Things DIFFER.

The CZ-82 is nearly identical in size to many modern compacts (such as the UC9).

I believe it's a hell of a bargain considering the price. The ammo is on the cheap side and it shoots that stuff really well.

I'd personally opt for something in 9x19 and in JHP if defense were the primary concern, but there's no doubt 12+1 rounds of 9x18 FMJ would serve one well in defense of life and limb.

Of all the 9x18 pistols available, I feel the CZ-82 is the most adequate for "combat". However, I still have a lot of love for the Makarov and P64 as well.

13+1 9x19 UC9 and 12+1 9x18 CZ-82

silver bear hollowpoints are pretty cheap, for that matter. they aren't a great HP design, but the feed and expand in my testing.

I'm almost out of brown bear, I'm going to stock silver bear fron here on out just because I think zinc-plated cartridges are spiffy and visually distinct from 9x19 or 9x17, which might matter if I have a new shooter at the range.

The reason the CZ 82 came in 9mm Makarov had nothing to do with 9mm Luger being prohibited as a military round. It was because Czechoslovakia was part of the Communist Bloc and the Makarov was the standard Soviet round. Their previous pistol was the CZ 52 which fired the Tokarev round.

I used to have an 83 in .380 but.......

....the grips kept cracking on mine for some reason. One pair of Marschals and a couple pairs of the cheap plastics. Annoyed me enough to sell it. Shame actually, it shot REALLY well. Did anyone else have this problem or was mine a singular case?

My grips kept coming loose. I didn't want to overtighten them because the plastic is pretty thin. Loctite didn't work. I finally put a nylon washer under the screw head, and that seems to be working

Even did the washer thing.

Put small rubber gaskets under mine per advice from others. Still cracked. Didn't mind the plastics, they're cheap ( or at least were, it's been awhile ). Back then even Marschals weren't commanding the price they are now. I'd actually like to get one again for fun and even occasional carry (usually carry a Sig 232, so obviously .380 is fine by me), but I don't feel like replacing grips all the time. What they need is a nice rubber set.

One of best shooters i have. It is thick enough to feel solid in the hand but still compact and ambidextrous. It is certainly one of the most reliable and cheapest c&r pistols out there.

Moose458,

Your CZ is a real eyecatcher. How about telling us about the project, the finish and grips?

My CZ is ashamed to come out of the closet after seeing yours.

I'll second that. In fact, it's worth starting it's own thread.
