If i ever want to refinish my CZ in black polycoat who would i go to? also what other finishes might be better to get then black polycoat. It seems like the black polycoat scratched too easily.

Well its just a finish.....any company that replates/refinishes can strip the finish off of it and refinish it anyway you want. They will charge you a stripping the old finish charge on top of the new one being applied to the gun.

Actualy , poly coat is very tough. If you scratched it to the metal, you would have trashed a blued/parkerized gun. Its pretty tough.

Out of the OEM CZ finishes.....Nickel is probably the toughest finish. Then the Poly then the Blue'd guns.

Shoot well.

I'm amazed at how well the satin nickle finish on my 75B duo-tone has held up since I've owned it. I would love to have that finish on a 1911 someday.

That polycoat is essentially paint; a good matte blue finish might be a better way to go, or like I said earlier, a satin nickle finish would be nice, or even a good matte hard chrome finish would be a great way to go.

Give these guys a call or email; they also do a polymer coating (Cobra Coat) ;

If i go with this, and choose to get the slide refinished, how close do you think the slide's color will match the frame?

Tripp Research Hard Chrome. If you're going to get it refinished, get something that will last.

Oh ya Sanger, Ill see your 97 and raise you a pair of 40's! :D :D :what:

Both of these fine examples of CZ40's are hard chromed with a Matte finish on the frame and brushed finish on the slides. The CZ97 shown above has a brushed finish on the flats of the frame/slide. Very nice.

Both were dont by Accurate Plating and Weaponry in Florida. Bob Cogan owns the place and is great to work with.

Shoot well.

Eric, you just have tp show off those lovely Hakan grips don't you?
people can be such jerks at times. ;)

That should be taken as dripping with green envy.

Very nice.

The black polycoat on my 75B has been tough as nails since I bought it. It has stood up to long days in a holster at the range, a fall onto dirt at an outdoor range and actually firing the weapon.

I don't think you could accomplish such a feat with paint.

Actually the poly coat is just what it sounds like...poly or plastic. Its like the resin finish's you see and hear about that you have to bake on. But from what Ive seen the CZ finish is tougher than most of the aftermarket coatings.
So its a little more than just "paint'........

Thanks for the kind words......I havent posted a pic of the Custom CZ40B in a while.....this was just a lame excuse to do it again.........:D

Shoot well

It's worth a call to Tripp or some of the other sources mentioned, to verify a color match. The Tripp webpage has a lot of technical information on their Cobra Coat, which is a polymer coating similar to the poly coat on your gun. After having read this myself, it was an error on my part to characterize this as "paint".

The slide and frame matching isnt an issue at all. Both 40s have alloy frames and steel slides....if they were the brushed finish like the CZ97 that Tripp did, they would look exactly the same. Hard Chrome will match.
Shoot well.

Another Source to Consider

WWW.gunblue.homestead.com in Fla just finished some bluing of a 1911 slide for me and the work was supurb and prices reasonable. Highly polished blue finish like old Colts used to be. George Roghaar also does Gun Kote and other work. Heck of a nice guy to deal with and responds to email.

that hard chrome looks really great, if they have it in black i will eventually get that. How strong is it in comparison to the black polycoat?

Hard Chrome, when done correctly is simply indestructable. But if you want black..they have Black Chrome which isnt quite as tough.
The poly coat is tough, but nothing like Hard Chrome.

Many companies offer black and other shades in other finishes.....Just look around and read up reviews of people who have had their guns done from various places.

Shoot well.
