It's come time to buy another box of good SD ammo to supplement my aging HST. So my first thought was to step up from 124gr 147-grainers, perhaps even in +P to offset the shorter barrel of my PCR.

On the other hand, I've had problems with 125-grain handloads in it due to the short throat; so much so that I had to seat them noticeably shorter than listed, and eventually changed molds to one with a step where the bullet seats into the casing to keep it from jamming up.

The only 147's I've had a chance to test so far were Winchester Wally-World Special hollowpoints. No real problems, but they do have a pretty distinct taper.

So, anyone have problems with off-the-shelf 147-grain loads in a CZ? And a note on whether it would be worth moving to +P in the PCR?

My PCR loved the 147+P HST. Loved regular too.

No problems with any load I tried in it, and I hit most of the typical loads from 115-147, especially GA types.

I've had good luck with 147 cast reloads. I have some Winchester Ranger 147s that I still need to verify function with. I would be surprised if they dont work. I haven't had feed issues with anything I've tried in my 75BD. It has to be one of the least picky guns I've seen.

My CZ75 fires them great. In fact the Winchester Ranger 147gr JHP's are my favorite 9mm rounds that I've tried.

What mold are you using? I use the Lee 124 grain tumble lube LRBN, and seated to 1.1 works great in my P-01 and Phantom.
I tried 147s some long time ago, and that was with the P-01 and PCR, don't remember any issues, but they shoot better with 124s.

I don't know the mold # but I use the Missouri Bullet "Subsonic." I kept hearing that 9 mm wasn't enough for bowling pins, so I wanted to experiment. They seem to be as accurate as any other bullet I've tried. They worked well w/ 3.6 of Unique. They leaded a bit though.

I was using the Lee 125-grain non-TL, which turned out to be a bit blunt for the 1.1-1.125 the books called for. I had to seat it to 1.05, and if it was any more it would still fail to go into battery. It was lodging into the lands just ahead of the brass, and locked up good and hard.

Switched to the 124-grain tumble-lube mold, which has a step for the lube grooves. This alleviated the jamming problem, and in the short time I've had it, seems to have cut back on the wicked leading I used to get.

I'm interested in how 147 shoots versus 124, too. The non-TL rounds I cast (I haven't used them all yet) haven't given me great accuracy from in front of 2.9gr of Red Dot, but I attribute a good bit of that to 1) me, 2) their habit of leading up, and C) me.

I have been loading Berry's 124 plated HP for my Glock 17 and my PCR. I have to seat them way deeper for the PCR. RN bullets feed great. The PCR has a short throat or a short chamber or whichever so truncated cone style bullets don't feed as well as bullets with a rounder profile. I've been seating the Berry's at around 1.04, if I seat to 1.05 there's enough seating variation that anything a few thousandths over isn't going to feed and causes me to have to strip the slide and ram the stuck cartridge out with the guide road. Seems like we've been havin the same experience Deus.

Well, the CZ owners and reloaders here all confirm that CZ's all have short throats. Good for accuracy if you're a loader, not so great if you're partial to certain styles of bullet.

I've just avoided things like XTP's and various other truncated cones because if it. If it gets to be a problem on any factory loads that TC style rounds, I'll just invest in a reamer, toss the barrel in the lathe, and ream the throat another .07".

Heck I could ream it another 1.45", to Glock specs. :D
