CZ P-01 Question

I recently purchased a new CZ P-01. I've read where the mags on this model are not suppose to drop free. They do on my pistol. Does anyone know why this might be? Thanks.
 
If you take the grips off you will see a piece of shiny sheet metal running vertically up the "spine" of the frame. Besides acting as a guide to run the magazine home, it is also a leaf spring which, when bent or arched slightly, applies friction to the rear of the magazine, acting as a brake. In fact, it is called a magazine brake. Yours is probably straight and applies no pressure to the magazine. My PCR compact is made this way as well.

The descriptions of both models on the CZ website are silent on whether or not mags are supposed to drop free.
 
Regular CZs..

have the curved mag brake that makes the mags stick - paranoid Europeans. The P01 is straight, and made to allow the mags to drop free. BUt, this is a 5 minute job on a 75.
 
Hooray for the P-01 and SP-01, no magazine brakes =)

I'm guessing, Europeans are cheap and do not want any chances of losing a magazine.
 
Probably what "johnle" said. The CZ's were heavily used by LEO and mil.
Maybe IDPA shooters like it too-they can't drop and leave mags....I don't know.
 
It's more common on handguns designed for military use. While a civilian self-defense situation would require quick mag swaps, a solider may need to make sure that they have at least one magazine for their handgun.
