Silly poll, I know but please pick your preference and compare and contrast. I have made a substantial investment in a cz and mags already but had to do some garage gunsmithing to make it totally reliable as it is now. I really don't want to buy a p-01 and have to change the extracter spring etc.

Would the cougar reasonably fill the role of the p-01. Let em fly I'm on a life long quest for knowledge here.

Thanks! -bevr

My vote is for CZ....

I never had issues with a CZ out of the box so far and neither have my friends. Between all of us we own a CZ 75 S/A, CZ 75B, SP-01, P01 and Compact .40

I want the PCR so bad, I think it would be a great little brother to my CZ 97B.

I would get the CZ, because they are awesome guns, and I love them.

I have had only good experiances with my 4 CZs, including a WWII CZ27, its been 100% reliable with original springs.:)

I'm a big CZ guy and have many CZ's, my CZ-75 is my favorite all-time pistol.
However, I had to give some love to the Stoeger Cougar. You really can't go wrong with either gun, but in this comparison, the Cougar is going to suffer from CZ reputation and mystique (well deserved, I may add). But the Stoeger Cougar is no slouch. I've had Beretta, and now own a Stoeger Cougar and the quality is every bit on par with it's twice-the-price twin (as many probably know, the Stoeger Cougar is the same gun as the Beretta, it's just made in turkey on Beretta equipment, managed by Beretta and Benelli).

You might want to direct your question to someone on this forum who actually owns both weapons...otherwise you will get a very subjective answer. CZ, as I understand, is a fine weapon...so is the Stoeger, ala Beretta Cougar, which is the one I own. Why don't you go out, rent at a range, and fire the two? I recently purchased my Cougar...love it. I have small hands, and the trigger reach is much better for me on the Cougar vs the P01. The cougar can be had for less as well...and nothing is better than Beretta (Italian) tooling even if they did move their factory to Turkey.

thanks for the responses

Yes I should test fire both guns. The reason I ask for information is in case somebody is seeing something I am missing.

I love my cz as many of you do. I also have small hands. I like the rotating barrel just cuz it is cool and I can't afford a steyr-hahn(sp?). I love the ergos of the p-01 but if the cougar is more comfy that may be all it takes.

One thing that bugs me about the cougar is mag availabilty. I can use my 75 mags in the p-01 (correct me if wrong on that).

Doing research on the p-01 at czforum has me scared I will face spring issues and my experience with cz customer service sucked pretty hard. I know I am in the minority here but that does not bother me. I have always been a rare bird as it were.

keep em coming! -bevr

Love the feel of the PCR. Love the feel of the Cougar.

The PCR looks prettier. The Cougar has a perfect DA trigger reach for me.

I can get a Cougar to look prettier, but it costs more to shorten the PCR trigger reach.

Gotta pick the Cougar. (I'd vote both if that were an option.)

Personally, I would buy the Stoeger Cougar.

I don't have one but if I were going to make the decision you are making, I would buy the (Beretta). I've always wanted one and I also just like buying different, but good, guns. Doesn't mean it's a better gun, or worse, it's just one I have wanted. You have a CZ, try something different.

Double action trigger reach is an issue with my 75b but the deeper curve of p-01 trigger helps it a bit. I am not to much of a decocker only fan but a decocked p-01 does lay that trigger back a bit closer.

thanks cougar backers and p-01 enthusiasts!

That rotating barrel is reaching out to me even with my respect for what a good cz can be. People talk 1911 triggers but I still shoot my 75 better than my sweet S&W 1911.

oddly S&W 1911 and 686 are my bedside guns.

This is gonna be a tough choice!

Uncle Sam was not good to me tax wise this year. I was originally looking into a STI Trojan. Now I can probably afford a cougar or save up for a p-01. Oh how the mighty fall!
