Im thinking of getting a 452 lux model. Ive read a few accounts about CZ's coming from the factory with some sort of "packing grease" applied to the bolt and/or barrel. Is this a messy cosmoline sort of grease? Or just a light oil that you can easily wipe off?

I just want to know beforehand if its going to be a bear to clean the thing before shooting or not, or if I should take apart and clean the bolt.

All my CZ have just been heavily coated in oil not grease. They clean up easily no problems not like an SKS or the like.In fact I have shot some before clening them to check them out no problems there either. My 452 is very accurate. I think you would really like the CZ family they are some of my very favorite firearms. i love there pistols they are my favorite and there rifles are very accurate.
Good Luck

I picked up a CZ 452 American this past weekend and it had a slight coating of oil, but no grease. I probably won't clean it before I do some shooting.

You won't have any difficulty cleaning it, as stated above they come covered in a light machine oil.

I would recommend giving it (or any new gun) a through cleaning before shooting.
