Hey guys and gals....
My first thread since I joined THR (After being a member at TFL). I just picked up a CZ 550 Varmint Laminated in .308
This puppy looks great. Does anyone out there have any experience with this rifle? Please share.

Oh...by the way, What do ya'll think about the rifle's looks?

Thanks.

I bought one myself a little while back. Only problem I had with it is not tightening down the rear scope ring tight enough and having it come loose on me, and that's not the gun's fault.

The only other issue I had is the non-set trigger pull was a little rough but it broke in nicely and is buttery smooth now.

I really like the looks and the accuracy is better than I can bench-rest shoot it so I'm still the limiting factor. The first reloads I've put through it are Speer 168 gr Moly HPBT on top of 45.0 gr of Varget with a CCI non-mag primer. Gives me 2750 FPS give or take about 30 FPS and more accuracy than I have.

Once I get good enough to tell a differance I'll work up some more loads as a comparison :)

Over-all I'm really happy with the gun and have recommend it several times. For the money I don't think it can be beat and it was exactly what I was shopping for at the time, but the set trigger is what really cinched the deal.

Edit: Forgot to mention what scope I slapped on it, a BSA Contender 4-16x40. Another great bang for the buck item.

MakeMyDay- Can't comment on your rifle as I haven't seen one. But I have two others- a 9.3x62 550 Lux that is the queen of my safe right now and a 6.5x55 550FS that has a horrible stock and will go back to the factory for a new one. In general I am really well pleased with the CZ line. And in a laminate you probably won't have my problems with bad wood.

KIWI- Indeed, there are some problems with the CZ bolt. I don't want to spread any disinformation so instead you should go over to Accurate Reloading and do a search there. CZ has a fix and will bend over backwards to help you. They also had a small run of rifles with plastic floorplates and followers. They will apparently replace those gratis. But do a search. Don't take it from me. I'm just a guy on the internet.

Hey, MMD! How heavy is that puppy? Been eyeing on the 550 myself.;) Not sure I'd want to lug the bull bbl in the field.

Can't speak for the 550 series, but I have a 452 .22lr and a 527 in .223. I just found the "sweet" length for seating my nosler 50 grain bullets, and here's a pic of what it's capable of at 100 yards:

I just did a search on Accurate reloading, didn't find anything, maybe a link is in order?

I too would very much like to know the weight of one of those laminated 550s.

theCZ... That picture you posted is a beautiful thing. :)

Yeah it is! I'm glad I got that one too, it took me a bit of foolin' around with my comparator to find the perfect spot (it's .02" off the lands).

Their hefty. With glass I believe mine is right at 10 lbs. Slap on the Harris bipod and it's just over 11 lbs.

I'm selling mine as I came into a good deal on an A-Bolt Eclipse in .308 w/BOSS that will slightly out-shoot it. Which is good since the gun costs twice as much new ;)

That rifle was on my short list when I was in the market for a .308 bolt rig. I ended up not buying it because I couldn't find much info on it aside from what CZ puts out. You got a lot more responses to your post than I did when I asked the same question about it. I bet it's a good shooter though. I do remember a post stating that there is at least one well known custom rifle builder who uses CZ actions in his rifles. Sorry but I can't remember who it is. Go to snipershide.com, you might get more info from them.

I ended up buying a Savage 10FP-LE2B. I'm really happy with the Savage but have always wondered how the CZ would have compared. Good luck and let us know how you like it if you get it.

My neighbor has a new 550 in 308. He shot maybe 200 rounds through it before some parts fell out of the trigger. Shipped it back to CZ. It hasn't come back yet. I can't tell you what fell out because he didn't know.

PM me with the details, I think I might have an friend interested in it.

I have the same gun but in 22-250.

It's the second most accurate gun I own, behind my Remington 700 VLS in .204 Ruger.

The single set trigger is sweet and the gun handles really well. O would not, however, lug this into the woods. Scoped and with bi-pod, it is HEAVY!
