I have started a small collection of 9mm pistols. I currently own the following.
Glock 19
Browning High Power
Berretta 92fs
Sig 226
I love each of these pistols. They all fit my hands well, feel like they are high quality, and I can shoot each of them well.
I have been planning on buying a cz75b for a while now. I have read many positive reviews on the CZ pistols on this forum and other gun forums. I love the looks of the CZ75, I am a pretty big fan of other CZ products (I own two CZ rifles), but the cz75's I have handled just didn't feel good. It fit my hand perfectly, but just picking the gun up it somehow feels cheap in my hand. I don't know if it is the grip material or what. It just reminds me of a cheap plastic air soft gun. Operating the slide it seems excessively hard to rack the slide, and kind of gritty. The trigger feels terrible. The machining looks good, the finish looked fine. I did see quite a few metal shavings inside the gun, which probably isn't a good thing. I really want to like this gun, but the two or three samples I fondled last night just didn't inspire any warm fuzzy feelings about the CZ75. Has anybody else had this reaction to the cz75? If so does it grow on you as you shoot it? Please share your first impressions with this gun, and how your impression has changed as you use it.

Thanks,

Kyle

I've had several new CZ-75Bs. And a bunch of used ones. I've never found metal shavings inside any of the new ones.

I've had all of the guns you name, and then some. I prefer the CZ-75 line (older pre-Bs and Bs.) The only ones I like as well, are my Glock 34 and my BHP (and a Sphinx or two).

That said, it seems pretty simple to me:

If it doesn't feel right, doesn't look right, you should just assume its not the right gun for you. Don't bother. You'll probably regret it -- as you already seem predisposed against it.

Get another SIG, and H&K or something a little more exotic, like a S&W Model 52-2.

Kyle,

In 9mm, I own a Glock 19, HK P7M8, Walther P99, and a CZ75 ("transitional" pre-B). While I can shoot all of these reasonably well, I get the tightest and most consistent groups from the CZ75 (the P7M8 is a close second). It is a delight to shoot. Most people find the ergonomics of the CZ75 to be as good or better than competing pistols. I love the way it feels in my hand, despite the cheap-feeling plastic grips. My gun has been 100% reliable so far and is the most fun to shoot of my 9mm stable.

While the fit and finish of the CZ is not quite up to the standards of some other manufacturers, the function certainly is. If you have a chance to rent one at a range or shoot a friend's, I highly recommend it. I think you'll be impressed.

As IdaReggaeMon said, try to find one to rent. The trigger improves DRAMATICALLY with use, and new grips can go a long way towards a diferent feel. When I got mine (a 75B Military model) it had some of the worst grips ever, the so called "ergonomic" grips. I changed to some wrap around Hogues and it was so much better.

All that being said, if it just doesn't feel right it might not be, worth trying out though.

I experienced some of the things you mentioned when I got mine several months and 1000 rds ago. I didn't see any shavings.
When I first got mine it looked like it had axle grease and crud in it. Clean the pistol and mags thoroughly and put your favorite magic lube(s) on it.
The grip isn't stippled, it's very smooth, and the plastic grips don't add much 'weld' to your grip especially in hot weather. Puting grip tape on the front and back strap of the grip really made a big difference for me. It locks in nicely now.
I didn't like that the slide only has minimum grooves on the rear. In the hot summer weather its slick. I grip the rear of the slide up against the sites.
The DA trigger has a very long pull, but it smoothed out nicely after it broke in.

Maybe it's just me, but everytime I shoot it gets smoother, faster and more accurate. I really like mine.

My first impression was "how did I compleatly miss the paper plate at only 25' away?", and pulled the target in for a closer look.:)

I got a 75D Compact PCR recently (420 rounds to date) and find it very well made. It is light, having an aluminum alloy frame, but does not feel toy-like. There were no metal shavings in it, just a lot of rust preventive/lubricant which actually made the plastic wrapping all squishy. It cleaned up easily, though. Part of the difficulty with slide racking, especially with the hammer down, is from the fact that not much slide protrudes from the frame, giving you very little purchase on it. There is just no way around this, it is the price paid for the slide inside the frame design. The DA trigger (this model has a frame-mounted decocker) is short and smooth. The SA trigger is a bit gritty, but it is smoothing out.

I have made a couple of small changes to it. I obtained and retrofitted some rubber-covered magazine basepads, as the forward lower edge of the flat metal floorplate gouges my little finger. And I ordered some plastic grip panels (hopefully they fit) as the rubber ones are a little too "grippy."

On my last outing, with a box of Blazer aluminum ammo and an additional magazine (both new to it) I did have a couple of odd malfunctions. But all the previous ammo (MagTech ball and Federal 9BP) has functioned perfectly.

I've had a 75B and PCR for several years. They are among my favorite pistols. Fit and finish is great and my PCR is my everyday carry piece. If it fits your hand, but a CZ.

CZ's tend to wear in as they break in. I have, or have had, some of the same pistols as you. My 9mm stable currently consists of:

Glock 17 (had a 19)
Sig 226
Colt Commander (9mm)
CZ 75 (pre-B)
Star 30
Star BM
Benelli B-76
Astra A-80
Rock Island Armory frame w/Essex slide, 9mm custom (under construction)

My favorites to shoot are the Sig and the CZ. Even though the Sig is better machined and finished, it doesn't shoot any better. I like the CZ so much, I have an SP-01 on order.

I bought a barely used 75BD a couple of years ago and hated the plastic grips. I first put Hogues on, but it made the grip to big for me. So I got some of the CZ rubber ones and put some skateboard tape on the front and back strap and it is now perfect in my hands. Also, the trigger was awful when I first got it (it was how I knew it was not fired much) so I put in some snap caps and sat in front of the tv pulling the trigger 600+ times and it smoothed right up. Definately buy one.

I have 3 CZ 75 pistols, Compact 9mm, Compact 40 S&W and a Kadet. All steel, the 40 S&W does feel slightly different and a little better hand fit. I have had no problems and the 9mm is very accurate and tight.
I love all 3 pistols and like that mine are all steel, I do not like alloys or polymers.

Czech out a P-01 or other Compact CZ before you dismiss them. For some shooters the CZ Compact framed guns fit/point very well and often better than the larger and heavier 75B.

CZF what sights are on CZ in your picture? I have a Semi Compact, and I am looking to upgrade the sights.

I had just the oppposite experience. When I picked up my first cZ, it just felt right so I bought it, and have purchased a number more. The plastic grips on the 75B don't feel right to me, so I replace them with the cZ rubber grips which feel fine. As stated above, if it doesn't feel right, pass on it for something else.

I have all the same pistols that you have and I like them all. I also have a CZ-75b Single action, I put a light hammer spring on it, some fiber optic sights and Hogue wrap around grips. It's hands down the most accurate pistol I've ever owned from 7 to 100 yards.

It wont win a beauty contest and has machine marks on the inside....but what it lacks in fit and finish it more than makes up for in accuracy. I've owned a standard CZ-75b sa/da, but I prefer the shorter trigger of the SA only.....it's not as gritty and has just the slightest creep. Out of all the pistols I've owned I consider the CZ-75b a must for any collection. It's the only pistol I've had more than one of........and I'm quite sure I'll get another one sooner or later.

I have owned a similar list of 9mm autos. Once you shoot

the CZ, you may decide that the Sig 226 and 92FS are safe queens. Try the SP01 CZ. It shoots better than my 92FS does, which I thought was tough. The Sig never fit my hand as well, so that one will go into personal selection of grip/feel. I recommend shooting one first, and the same day, bring your glock and browning and compare. You may notice that the CZ shoots like butter. The recoil is very low since the slide rides almost at your palm hold height.

I have handled just didn't feel good. It fit my hand perfectly, but just picking the gun up it somehow feels cheap in my hand. I don't know if it is the grip material or what. It just reminds me of a cheap plastic air soft gun.

You say the cz feels like cheap plastic, but the frame is all-steel. Your sig and beretta have an aluminum frame, and your glock has a PLASTIC one, but those don't feel cheap? :scrutiny:

You say the cz-75 fits your hand "perfectly" but it doesn't feel good? Well, which one is it?
