I have a CZ75B with a factory slide-mounted Firepiont red dot sight and it's a fine shooter (plinking at the range). I have an opportunity to get a newer S&W 952 (9mm) Performance Center pistol and my question is: Is this $1000 gun really that much better a target pistol than my CZ75B and is it worth the investment? Thanks for any suggestions or input.

The M952-2 is a much better target pistol than the CZ 75B. My M952 has a much better single-action trigger than my CZ 75B, and the M952 is considerably more accurate due to the tightly fit spherical barrel bushing.

The M952 iron sights also work better for me; however, sight choice is subjective. I also think the M952 is easier to shoot for my smaller hand due to the smaller diameter grip.

***WARNING - I have never owned a SW 952, so consider that against the following***

That depends on your purpose. The CZ should be shooting at least 3" at 25yds., if not better. The SW may shoot half that, but is that additional 1.5" of accuracy worth the ~$500 premium you are going to be paying? For my purposes, it is not worth it. Then again, when you get into "pride of ownership", quality, resale value, then the SW deserves a second look. It really depends on what your motivation is for wanting the SW. If you're shooting in a bullseye-style competition, then the SW could well be worth it.

Of course if you are just looking for an excuse to buy a new gun, then the SW is absolutely the way to go and the CZ is old, tired and in need of replacement..... :neener: .

Well, you have spent enough on holster guns to justify spending $400.00 on a Ransom Pistol Rest,(read that as a mechanical, repeatable, locking, machine vise for handguns.), and a couple of inserts for the pistols in question.
Then and only then will you know the answer to your question.

The S&W PC 952 is a superb handgun. Most often it gets compared to a Sig P210 which costs about $750 more and the comparisons are often favorable to the Smith. As mentioned the 952 has a terrific trigger and is exceptionally accurate.

As far as an investment I'm not so sure. If you mean will you derive a thousand bucks worth of value from using it I'd say yes. If you mean will it increase in monetary value, well most pistols that I own I'd say no, but the 952 has a better chance than most. Still I wouldn't buy one strictly as an investment.
