Picked up my S&W 952-2s last Thursday. They are the stainless models that just came out this year. Unfortunately I can't go shooting until the middle of next week because I am going out of town!!!! So all I could do was clean and lube them for now. Bummer!!!!
I'll post some better pics and a range report when I get back.
Two things different about these guns than what is listed on the S&W web site...(1) they both came in a Performance Center aluminum case instead of the PC Gun Rug and (2) they both have LPA sights, not Wilson sights as listed on the "view detail" section.
Not a big deal as someone else posted that theirs had LPA sights also. I emailed Kate (S&W rep) to let her know about the differences in the web site and the guns. Her response was that the first few 952-2s came with the PC case and the rest will come with the PC Gun Rug. Unlike the 952-1 (blue model), the stainless has LPA adjustable sights and they will update their web sight to reflect that.
Edited to change pictures:
The 952-2 and the 952-1 have the same "safety" functions. That being the magazine disconnect, the grip safety, and the manual decocking safety lever (firing pin block). The 952-2 does NOT have "Performance Center" on the slide like the blue does.
Update: Range Report
Just got back from the range where I put 300 rounds through each of my 952-2s. The only ammo I had was Winchester white box and Blazer.
Gun #1
Started out with Winchester ammo. The gun did not eject out the empty case (it was stuck in the ejection port while trying to eject). The first 5 rounds I fired had to manually eject the empty case. After that, the gun started ejecting correctly but a little weak (cases landing right under my gun, on my forearm, etc). The slide had sort of a little drag when the slide blew back and then went forward. Always went into battery but was a bit sluggish. Reminded me of a couple of SVIs that I had that did the same thing until I used a lighter recoil spring during breakin (they were short cycling). I used a new lube I have never used before called Slide Glide. I may have used too much or perhaps this gun is just not going to like it. The remainder of the 300 rounds went through fine with the Winchester casings being ejected rather weakly but the Blazer ejecting out correctly. I will clean and re-lube this gun with Militec-1 which is what I normally use and see how it performs as I'm not sold on Slide Glide yet.
Gun #2
Started out with Winchester ammo and progressed with Blazer. This gun was also lubed with Slide Glide but had no problems at all. The cycling of this gun was smooth as glass with no hint of drag/sluggishnish. Empty cases ejected correctly and consistently. All 300 rounds were fired with 100% reliability.
I didn't shoot either gun for accuracy other than some offhand shooting no further than 11 yards. Once I have several hundred more round through the guns I'll do some accuracy tests and see what ammo the guns like the best. I already know that these guns will definitely be more accurate than I will ever be.
Triggers felt the same...smooth, light with a nice clean break. Overall extremely pleasant to shoot and balanced very well in my hand. I tested the grip safety and the manual decocking safety lever (firing pin block) and they worked as designed.
