Looking for a new gun to play with and have narrowed it down to these two. Looking for a range toy and a gun to teach new shooters. Which of these two options do you think fits the bill better?

The real Mak will defiantly have more recoil in 9x18, smaller gun less mass.

The cz-82 is a softer shooter, although if you put extra power wolfe recoil springs in both, both are pretty soft shooting.

The cz-82, it is bigger. Also less likely to bite your thumb. But less accurate than a makarov.

Fooling around with gun springs can cause many problems. Proceed with extreme caution!

recoil springs are a very common swap on the cz-82 and makarov. it does not cause a problem.

For a tool for teaching new shooters: CZ-82 all the way. The controls more closely resemble a modern handgun - IE, everything is where you'd expect it. The heel release for example on the Makarov can put some people off.

On the other hand, if you're planning on CC'ing the gun, the Makarov is a bit thinner. Just based on my personal experience, the CZ-82 is too thick for me to comfortably carry in my IWB holster.

Vellocet- I would have to disagree. My 82 is my most accurate handgun. It also sweeter than my sig228 in feel and function.

I have 16 Makarovs and 4 CZ82 and 83.

Due to the CZ having a wider more hand filling grip it feels a little softer shooting.

The sharp kick of the Makarov can be reduced noticeably by using a 21 pound Wolff recoil spring. I use the 21 pound spring in my .380 and 9x18 Maks but a good compromise is the 19 pound spring.

In any case a number of females have shot my Makarovs and handle the guns very well.

fatcat4620, you might be right. The two cz-82 that I own might be more ragged out than yours. And I am not a real good shot. but most people that own both give it to the Mak, especially at longer distances. I would start a new thread on this if I was not so lazy. But I like shooting the cz better.

Oh, and let's not forget those silly, worthless safetys on the cz82, the pistol's main drawback. A waste of metal.

Wow, and I thought that I was a hoarder. :D

Don't hold it in like that, say what you really feel. You'll get all bottled up inside. :p

It's just that when they were under $200 they kept following me home.:D
If I didn't buy anything else at the gun shows I'd buy another $135 Makarov. The last couple I bought were in the $300 range.
I like the CZ82/83 but I have a soft spot for the Makarov.

I have no idea what you mean here. My only qualms are that they 1) are ambi; and 2) stick out too far. They add about half inch to the width of the pistol, but otherwise work fine as is.

Thank for the input, there, cz guy. It had nothing to do with the thread. Why don't you start a new one, HOW many cz82 owners think the safetys are worthless as compared to grip/button types? Why is it pretty much the only popular gun with that stupid safety? And please, I am new to this and need instruction about how to use those little smiley computer faces, if I ever wanted to. Best wishes and thanks for the attention to a new member.

You are correct on both accounts. The Input was my pleasure, and this thread is about which recoils harder the Makarov, or the CZ 82.

I would but I've gotten used to the safeties on CZs, and am not terribly interested in whether or not others find them "worthless". But if it is a topic that you are interested in, then by all means start a new thread.

Best wishes and thanks for the attention to a new member.

Again, it was my pleasure. I look forward to reading your future posts.

I'm guessing he thinks a "cocked and locked" safety is useless on a DA/SA gun if you don't carry it cocked and locked. I personally keep mine with the hammer down.

My Mak is definitely the softer shooting of the two. Funny that most here disagree. I shot my two Makarovs side by side with my CZ-82 and a couple of P64's the other day, with my brother. We both agreed that the Makarov was the softest shooter, than the CZ-82, than the P64 (which has a pretty mean kick).

I'll also add that the Makarov and CZ both are fairly accurate IMO.

Felt or perceived recoil is a very personal thing. We may not be able to agree, but still both be right. My CZ-82 is softer shooting for me. The next guy on the firing range might say just the opposite.
